Box World!

Post by eMTe »

Cute little brain-teaser game with idea taken straight from Chip's Challenge - you have to push blocks around the screen and place them in order to get to next level. I dont know how many levels it has, but I'm stuck in sixth and reviews say that further levels are incredibly hard.

It's like the good old soko-ban isn't it?

I played this game 9 to 10 years ago. In the past, I have played many variations of moving objects to the allocated places. However, I have never completed all the levels because other more interesting genre games came along. :P Can't remember which level I stopped at, maybe it's level 19.

What is the "beep off" for? All the different PCs that I have tried the game on, I have not heard any beeping sound.

Just to satisfy your curiosity, the game has 100 levels. It's good considering that the game size is small. For your sake, I have confirmed it by jumping to level 100 and finishing level 100. After you complete level 100, it goes back to level 1. Level 100 is not the most difficult as there are other levels more difficult than this level.

One thing that I like about this sokoban clone is that the game area for moving boxes is small. You would not have to think of many ways of shifting the boxes. Thus you either get the solution or don't get the solution. There isn't many alternative ways of solving unlike some sokoban clones. This might prove difficult for some players. The levels are actually not difficult, a player just needs to think in the correct direction.

Tell you a cheat to skip levels (not much of a secret actually):
Edit the configaration file call boxworld.ini. Change HighestStage=100
What happens is that when you complete a level, the game just updates the configaration file to the level you are on. Thus you can play past levels that you have completed but not later levels. You just make the game think that you have played to level 100 then you can choose any level you want to go to. :P

Maybe someday I may go about finishing all the levels in between. ;)

Here's some guidance to help you with level 6 ;) and to give others a feel on what I mean by limited way of solving with limited space.

I have divided the game area of level 6 into 4 parts, naming them A,B, C & D. From analysing, Area A, B & C looks exactly the same with limited space at the side except they are a facing different directions. Area D is the only one with more space. That's where your clue lies. With more space, you can move boxes. This leads to the reasoning to place a box there temporary but only one would fit the space without getting stuck. Then this leads to the idea to move the nearest box there. After that, you would think of moving other boxes. I'm sure you should now be able to solve the rest of the level yourself. ;) Happy playing.

On a higher harder level, when dividing the game area into 4 parts, all 4 parts look exactly the same. That's where the challenge lies. Usually one clue always to look for first is to see if there is anything different / unusual about the game area.

Yep! Great game I've seen a lot of remakes of this game, and this one looks pretty nice!
