I didn't need DosBox or anything - though I have no speakers on this machine - so I dont know if the sound works. But it played like a dream!

It seems I slowly get better. I completed several levels so far and actually I am playing the ale bonus level which is quite funny (mostly because of the tune that is playing in the background).
I think it is interesting that it really matters which weapons you choose. In most action games there are several weapons which are doing more or less the same. In "Tyrian" it is very important. If you choose the wrong weapons it will be nearly impossible to complete certain levels.
I also like that there are several game modes as well as three difficulty settings. And best thing: There is even a story (which is quite seldom in action games).
Only thing that I dislike a bit: Sometimes the screen is a bit overcrowded with enemies and projectiles and it is hard to keep an overview. I don't like it if you have to play a level several times to learn from which direction the enemies are coming before you even have the slightest chance to survive. On the other hand this is good old arcade gameplay, so I think I shouldn't complain about it.
