Arunderan

Post by eMTe »

Stan has the oder to free the town Arunderan from a curse. All citizens are changed into sheeps. Their bodies are trapped in soulstones, which are placed all over Arundistan. Destroy those soulstones to change the citizens back to normal. Defeat the bad Gnarz who has cursed the citizens of Arunderan.

Looks like Dink Smallwood, plays like Dink Smallwood, is better and funnier than Dink Smallwood. That's my first impression.

When I first started playing, I thought this game is quite unplayable. I thought the graphics are ugly and the animation when the hero Stan was in run mode looked like he had the strong urge to go to the toilet. And worst of all were the the battles. There were so many skeletons and you had to hit them three times each before they are killed. And you are dead when they hit you six times. So it seemed impossible to survive very long without a lot of healing.

But then I found a strategy that helped. Hit the skeleton once, run away, hit it again, run away, hit it again, batlle over...

This way I survived long enough to level up a few times without too much healing. And I have to say that the game got much more interesting after that. More interesting enemies, better weapons and first pieces of amor, better spells etc.

The whole game reminds me of "Diabolo" (of course it isn't made that professional), but the feeling while playing is similar). And by the way, the scenario is quite funny. The idea of a demon that turned all humans to pigs, because there wasn't a virgin left as a sacrifice and the boy that has to become a hero, because all real heroes are sent to an eternal battle between good and evil aren't that bad at all.

So I have to say that "Arunderan" is very entertaining and much better than you might expect after a first impression.

I tried the run back and forth technique against the skeletons as well, but the mouse controls got in my face to the point where that was unfortunately very frustrating as well as time consuming. I would have given this more chances with keyboard controls.
