Superb mahjong game with tens of layouts, four different game modes and table rotation feature. Probably best freeware mahjong available...?

I would love to play it, but I do not know the rules to Mahjong, and never have, so could you explain them to me?

Well, you have to find two identical tiles and click them to remove them from the board. You can remove only these tiles which arent blocked by other (blocked means other tile lies on it or it is surrounded with other tiles). "Matching tiles" (left upper corner) shows you how many pairs you can remove in current baord's state... So you remove them and remove them as long as you clean whole screen...

Difficulty depends on initial layout (the more complex structure the less matching tiles and bigger possibility of getting stuck (no matching tiles)).

This is solo mahjong game (actually I dont remember any computer ORIGINAL mahjong which is game for four players), but if you want to know more about ancient mahjong...

rules are simple. To remove, it must be the top level piece and both sides, that is left and right must be free or empty. Left and right usually refer to the longer side of the tile. there are hybrid that use 3 line rule, but this one is definitely left/right rule. this is what people call match it or solitaire mahjong.

if you want try learn to play mahjong, you can try those arcade version with mame. they have only you and computer player which is much easier to learn than the 4 player mahjong.

I know what you're talking about. I finished the campaign mode some time ago, but still start the game nearly every single day to get new high scores for single levels...

Highly addictive...

And after a very long time the game has finally been added to CWF's database. You can download The Great Mahjong from our game info page:

Fatal effect of adding the game to the database is that I'm once more addicted and can't stop playing...

I would never had understood the link between Mahjong and Farmville if it wasn't for these informative spam bots.
