Pushover (remake)

Post by JKSM »

Pushover (remake)

In 2006, Ishisoft remade Pushover (orginally a Dos & Amiga game made by Ocean in 1992).

This was a popular puzzle game with 100 levels where you have to rearrange dominoes so that you can push can cause a chain reaction for all of them to topple. There is a block designated to be the last block to fall. There are many special property blocks that can block, explode, split etc.

Most people would already know this game. If you don't know the old game and want more details, you can read my review on the old game at OG :P

This remake retains the quality gameplay of the original.

Differences between this remake and the original:
- the remake is windows based while the original is dos based / Amiga.
- unlike the original, you don't have to type passwords for levels for the remake as it automatically saves your progress.
- although the remake follows the background of the original, it has a clearer 3D form but some changes and not as detail as the orginal for the title screen and the mini-cartoons.
- the remake has a level editor that the original does not have. :D
- the remake has clearer music but the nice sound effect when the amt grins is not there.
- you can try it yourselves to see what you think. For me, I think it's 80% as good as the original. The extras the remake has can compensate for what it lack from the original

I am looking forward the Ishisoft's second version (currently WIP) of this game as it will have new levels, additional domino types and 2 player co-operative mode. That's what I call good innovation :) Taking an old game and retaining the value of gameplay but adding additional features that people would like to see.

You may get the first version from here

I remember that level well. Damn tricky. :D

I refuse to help you, since youll regret it later. I was stuck in this level for weeks when I was teenager, but finally managed to beat it, youll succeed too, just remember - it's DAMN tricky.

Take the three yellow stones you can reach to the upper left platform. Then put the exploder just above the splitter and push the left of the three yellow stones. That should work...

Maybe you can help me with level 37 when you get there?

I still need help with level 37. I know there´s a second ascender under one of the ladders, but I have no idea what to do with it. I really tried everything I could imagine. so if anybody knows the solution please help me. Please!!! (eMTe?!?)

It's been a long time since I played pushover. Long ago when played the dos version, I went to quite a high level. Then got stuck and never finished the entire game. Maybe I should replay all when I find the time. Nowadays there're walkthough so it's easy.

Pater, I can't remember level 37 but I just read the solution. :p eMTe is right, you might regret knowing how to solve. Here a clue instead. Swap the ascender with another domino. It wouldn't work the way you normally think it would work. Have fun figuring that out. ;)

Ok, I finally did that level (but has to use a solution to do so). The solution was quite logical when you know what to do (but I would never have thought of that).

So I can on with that great game now and will tell you when I´m stuck again (even if nobody wants to help me) ;).

This is definently one of those games I will return to when I get some time on my hands. But I stopped playing it after I got stuck again. I am not too good with this kind of game, but I have willpower enough to stick to it, and hopefully that will make sure that I see level 21 at some point.
I always get that weird desire after playing this game, that I want to set up thousands of domino-pieces and then make my own kind of pushover! :D

I just downloaded it and everything's ok. Do you use some download manager maybe?

I have no idea what a ownload manager is ! I press download and it puts a folder into 'downloads' - when I click on it it has an 'application' but if I click it it says application failed to start because d3dx9_31.dll was not found - there is an application with that extension reference but that will not open either !

d3dx9_31.dll is a DirectX 9 file, so you should update your DirectX version to at least 9.0 and game should work then.

That's strange. Game folder contains SDL.dll. Just to be sure - you downloaded Pushover remake from our site?
