Just wanted to let you know that I uploaded Winrar to the server, so you should be able to get it from the site, once I add it.

If you have any issues with the progrtam let me know here...

I don't think winrar should be inthe site since it's not a freeware program.

If you go to tucows, zdnet, cnet or one those sites you are bound to find a freeware program that supports the same formats WinRar does

That is right. Only Pocket PC version is freeware, standard version is shareware, however you can download 40 days trial version from official website (dont quite understand developer's policy, because this version works fine after 40 days).

Topic remains here, download should be temporarily removed I think.

Actually we have that 7zips tool that Maz suggested, so I am not sure that we will be using Winrar... As far as I know 7zip can unpack .rar files, so that leaves us with little problems. So I am not sure I will add the download on this site...

Just in case 7-zip isn't satisfactory

I actually think we are going with 7zip, siomply because it is here and can do winrar...If we decide to change this one might be a good substitute though.

We got some new feedback that 7zip wasn't that good, so maybe we should change? Ideas?

As long as you don't pack the files in the .7z format, there is no issue. 7zip packs fine in .zip and .rar formats and unpacks everything fine in all formats.

I've had problems unpacking RAR files with IZArc. When unpacking them using the right-click menu, the folder was empty.

What exactly is the question? Should we still host 7zip? Yes we should as it packs and unpacks fine with good compression. Should we pack our downloadable game files with 7zip? We don't do that anyway...

Well, 7zip is free software. True, it's not the nicest looking software out there, but it does a lot.

I guess many people have their own favourite software and they probably use that instead of whatever we offer here. I guess the reason we have 7zip (or something like it) here is that it's for people who don't have already a software for extracting stuff, so I guess if we know of a free software that's easier to use than 7zip, we might want to look at that one instead.

Irrelevant sidenote: There is a freeware version of WinRAR from it's official makers, called UnRAR, but it's just command line version and only extracts RARs. =)

Ok. I am closing this one up as I am not sure we will ever host this other than as the evaluation version. Feel free to reopen it if you think it needs more debate.
