Thx Mont
I added it to the site, but if you and Curly feel it's not a good idea, I can always take it out.

I think it is a good idea
I think we talked about this earlier on. I think the gamehunting team should let this one pass the validation even though it has lousy gameplay.

Since I've tried this before, though of adding some comments.
It's very quite in compressing video file as well as other files as it compression is so much smaller. I've heard people mentioned that zipping the file with 7-zip might give problem, how true it is I don't know because so far I've only used it for extracting files.

I've been researching a bit in the archiving formats and such. I found out that it does not ultimately depend on what file format you use. The file format is only the "container" (in most cases). You can easily have lossless compression with the 7Z format, but it's something you must specify first. What it depends on is the compression "method". One lossless method is "deflate".
It was really quite interesting.

The reason i posted this was that since we propose 7-zip as a good achiving tool, i have found a program that uses the same engine as 7-zip, but with a more user friendly GUI. It's called jZip. And as far as i know, the only difference is the GUI.
I thought that since we generally think user-friendliness is an important thing, i thought i should show you this.
Now i don't think we should make a whole new thread. It's just good to know the possibilities.

A freeware application based on the 7-Zip engine, jZip, is available for Microsoft Windows. Its stated focus is an easier, more streamlined user interface than 7-Zip

Looks like the good old version of WinZip =)stiven wrote:http://www.jzip.com/Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7-Zip

Well, it's free(ware), it does RAR and looks like easy to use. So, it fits the bill at least.
edit:
I would still be very interested to know what lossy comperssion method 7zip or any other archiver offers. Just one example would be enough.stiven wrote:You can easily have lossless compression with the 7Z format, but it's something you must specify first. What it depends on is the compression "method". We can always host them both. Besides, to be honest, there's much better sites for linux (and mac?) freeware around :/
