Poacher

Post by Scythe »

There are persistent rumors that Yahtzee has created a cute little bunny-slaying platformer called Poacher.

Go here and see for yourself: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... ewest-Game
Warning: Reports of false positives from certain AV software have also been received.

Screenshots if and when I feel like it.

Cool, it's finally out. I liked the trailer that was around on several freeware sites some weeks ago.

Will download and play it right away!

Is it possible to swim to the bottom?

I don't think so. At least not at the beginning of the game.

Readme doesnt mention it, so I believe it is not.

Library sections beat the hell out of me and it's only 20% of the game, I wonder what awaits ahead. My Z key suffers badly.

Well, it feels like a Castlevania: SotN clone, so there's a slim chance you can visit everywhere eventually.

I'm gonna try plugging in a controller...

I still wish that game developers wouldn't use the Z-X-C key combination no longer. They should keep in mind that not everybody has an English keyboard. Using Z, X and Space to control a game certainly leads to a severe tendovaginitis after a while.

I'm at the library section as well at the moment. Pretty good game so far and I really like the first boss fight (the one against the monster rabbit).

There's nothing English about having Z X C in a row. Assuming the characters right to P and L, however...

Much easier to play with a controller. If you think the library platform sections are hard, wait till you get to the oil rig...... that section needs more than one save point.

I cant beat the underwater boss thingy, whatsitsname, but in general I am doing well. Maybe tomorrow.

Oil rig isnt that hard, once you memorize all moves you can even do speedruns. Took me a while to figure why do I have to shoot at levers though. And it took me even more time to find out how to pass longer distances underwater without being killed.

Either you both spend much more time with the game than me or you are just much better. I'm still at 26%. But at least I left the library behind.

WIth the exception of the last stretch, where I am currently stuck, the oil rig was by far the hardest part for me. Maybe it was just the platforming skills I learned during the oil rig, but nothing really slowed me down after that. Not even the tree world, which seemed like it could be very frustrating (but then I had already found a way to get where I had to go, which let me completely skip tree world if I wanted to). And not even bosses, which seemed to become easier and easier.

Maybe it was because I "cheated" and bought that upgrade where you can convert grenades to health. It certainly makes the underwater boss trivial.

Ladies and gentleman...an error! In Yahtzee's game!

ERROR in
action number 1
of Step Event
for object egotop:

In script grenadescript:
Error in code at line 50:
if(gg.type = CH_PEACE) gg.goaway = 1
^
at position 10: Unknown variable type

It happened to me twice during battle with underwater boss - it causes grenades to explode in your hands right after you press X and if you keep ignoring the error (which is not fatal, you can still play the game) X key stops working, even if you have grenades. Ill post a pic if Ill be able to reproduce it.

Here. I also observed more odd behaviours. Shortly before the error box appears I am unable to collect grenades - they dont appear as collected or only every fourth or fifth is collected. Second one - grenades fly straight instead of falling down. Third, as you can see, fairy spirit rises from Derek's head. All this happens only during fight with THIS boss.
