Wing Commander Saga
Looks like one of the many fan-made Wing Commander games is being released soon, in couple of days from now. Based on the Freespace 2 engine, Wing Commander Saga: The Darkest Dawn has been in the works for the past 10 years and features... well ...

Re: Wing Commander Saga
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............
Already tired of repeating the same failed training mission over and over (stupid escort missions) and listening to the same lines of dialogue ad nauseum. Walls of text between each mission have not been read after the first one. Voice acting of very variable quality - which does mean that some of it is pretty good, but also that some is a pain to listen to.
I have a negative impression so far, we'll see if I have the motivation to try and get past this roadblock.

Re: Wing Commander Saga
I give up. I can't even complete the Prologue missions on Very Easy difficulty. I'm not given the information I need to do so, and trial and error is very, very boring when you have to listen to the same dialogue every time.

Another supporting vote for my stance of not buying and playing modern games. I can have more fun with the discovery of an unknown (to me) 8-bit or Amiga game than with downloading the new one for a decent sum of money or simply being "huge". Both are "computer games" and engage the same senses. In fact, old games engage even one sense more - and it is imagination.

I think he just had a nostalgic fit. New games with their 3Ds and multi-gigabytes sizes are nothing compared to making cows out of pinecones and using your imagination to play FarmVille.

I think it's good to keep in mind that DirectX 9.0 was released in 2002, Windows XP in 2001 and Intel Pentium III 1 GHz processor already in 1999. You're running quite a lemon if your computer doesn't match these specs =)

Re: Wing Commander Saga
But look at it in the light that the games we usually play here are more like:
Recommended specs:
A computer running DOS or higher.
Cord, long enough to reach the wallsocket.

Re: Wing Commander Saga
Just completed it and it's great. It's got lots of content, and it has that very epic feeling to it at the end. Makes me want to play X3 again. That's really why i play these games, it's the immersiveness and the story. That's also why i played it in very easy difficulty. It was more fun then, when you didn't have to be as much on edge all the time with what friendly most needed assistance.
