Dig-n-Rig

Post by Zyx »

Another student project from DigiPen, Dig-n-Rig is gloriously low-fi game.
Dig-N-Rig is a 2D, futuristic, mining simulator that combines resource management with creative building mechanics. Dig-N-Rig takes place in the year 2032, when a team of scientists decide to explore the Earth's final frontier, the core. The player plays as the Diggit 6400, the world's most advanced mining robot. As the player mines, they extract powerful minerals from the Earth and transport them up to their Lab via a custom-built rig system. As the minerals reach the Lab, they are refined into malleable elements. Elements are then used by the player to purchase more rig pieces, upgrades, and items. Along the way, the player will discover rare fossils, encounter ferocious moles, and reach the center of the Earth!

That sounds extremely great. I have to try this during Winter-een-mas. :)

So, it's essentially Diggers, but without the advanced audiovisuals and more management-oriented.

I have to throw in a warning here... This game is so addicting that I ended up sitting from midnight to half past 1 yesterday (well today actually) going deeper and deeper. I just wanted to see what it was, and ended up loosing a good night sleep over it...

(Its great by the way).

And once more I ended up sitting with this game after all my girls were asleep, and once again it got to be past 1. I ended up spending around 5 hours - not a speedrun of the game - on finishing the game. I think the purpose is to speed it up a bit, as the YOU SUCCEEDED screen I got was rather mysterious and made me think that I finished in such a horrible time that I was off the charts. :)
With some good will I believe you could play through it in half an hour or so -maybe an hour. But it is worth the time if you ask me. I loved it.
