Devil's Tuning Fork

Post by Pater Alf »

A game with a very interesting concept and a unique visual and sound design. Winner of the IGF Student Showcase!

"Devil's Tuning Fork is a first-person exploration/puzzle game in which the player must navigate an unknown world using visual sound waves. The absence of light allows the player to perceive the world in an entirely new way.

As a mysterious epidemic causes children everywhere to fall into comas, one child wakes up in an alternate reality. It is up to this child, the player, to determine the cause of the epidemic and save the other children trapped here. By way of the Devil's Tuning Fork, a magical instrument that allows the player to perceive sound waves, the player must find all the children and successfully escape this alternate reality, thereby waking up from the coma." (taken from the readme file)

Yes, from what I could see from the video. The game belongs to the group of games that doesn't run on my computer. But there were very good critics and I thought the concept sounds so interesting that other players might enjoy it, so I decided to open the thread.

This is an AMAZING game. Only problem - No saving - only checkpoints that are stored for the duration of this game, not when you leave to the main menu - then there is no option to go to where you were.... Had to find out the hard way. Amazing atmosphere, amazing concept, amazingly easy controls made so difficult by the amazing concept.
I love this game, and I am guessing I will try it out again some day, when I feel like redoing the intro and first 2 levels...

Oh no, I should've read your no-save comment before I quit the game. Now my progress from about 90 minutes is gone... :(

Odd design decision to not have at least the possibility to start at the beginning of each level once you managed to get there. "Devil's Tuning Fork" doesn't seem like the kind of game to me that you want to play over and over again. And as a developer you can not expect that everybody has the time and possibility to play for a few hours without a break.

Besides that I agree with Chroelle. It's an amazing game with a unique idea and a great atmosphere. Relaxing and challenging at the same time and very well executed when it comes to everything (graphics, music, sounds, controls). I really wish for a sequel with more levels (but this time with a save function).
