Super Crate Box

Post by Zyx »

Super Crate Box is coming to bring back the glory of the golden arcade age, when all that really mattered was getting on that high score list. Grab your baseball cap and loosen your pants, it's time to fight endless hordes of enemies and collect every weapon crate you can. Prepare for an arcade delight with interesting, refreshing game mechanics, cracking retro art and a terribly hip chiptune soundtrack.
This indie freeware platformer will be available this friday from here. You can see the trailer and read a really short preview from here.

I finally had time to check this game out, it's pretty cool. I don't think they originally had a Mac version so that's probably one reason why I hadn't bothered before. Also, it's pretty difficult. One hit deaths and every crate changes your weapon. Truly an arcade game.

Check a video from here.

That is correct.

The point is not the different levels, because there's just so many ways you can put the platforms. The point is to catch crates and stay alive and kill bad guys. The more crates you pick up the higher your score. Simple. You unlock the levels / new guns / new characters by getting enough crates. You choose the level you want to play and then just see how many crates you manage to pick up. No story, no plot.

edit: It's a bit like (Non-Super) Mario Bros.
