Do you play your favourite board or card games online for lack of good opponents in real life?

I have to say that chess is one of my favourite games, and I love playing it online because hardly anyone I know is any good at it. I have winboard and an account with fics where I get to play rated games and get an idea of how good I am.

Its not a case of lack of a good opponent for me. I have a friend who lives quite far away from me and we enjoy chatting and playing online games togther. Mostly YM's word race and MSN's solitaire showdown :D It a fun way to stay in touch with him, plus I am hightly competative
