Blockman Gets!!

Post by jayenkai »

The story so far

Blockman was born about 2 years ago.
He was destined to live life inside Pacman style mazes.

Blockman didn't like the look of the mazes, though. He was scared of running around, and getting lost.
Instead, Blockman decided to try his hand at a less confusing platform world.
(Blockman)

Blockman had fun in his platforming world, and everyone was happy, especially Blockman.
His strange flat mouth turned slightly smile-ish for a good day or so.

Now, nearly 2 years later, Blockman's started to get a bit bored, so this week he decided to hop into his destined Pacman maze, and see what could happen.

Unfortunately, he was all alone, as none of his ghost friends decided to join him in his funtime.

Instead he collected some pills, and wandered around a bit.
The smooth color changing floors and walls made him feel like he was in a 1980s discotheque!
He enjoyed his experience, and was happy again.

You, too, can enjoy his newfound happiness, by downloading Blockman Gets!

I just checked the video and I believe that once again you have taken something original and made it even more original. :)
I might however have to turn off my sound for this one....

By far not your best game. I wouldn't say that it's bad, but without any enemies and a time limit it's a bit dull. If you want, you can perfectly plan your routes and get very, very far without loosing even a single life.

The several extra modes you can unlock are quite cool though and give the game some replaybility.

Huh. The opposite reaction!
Sure, it's not quite the usual "And then you will die!!!" that I usually aim for, but I liked the idea that you could actually plan out a more perfect route.

It's something that I actually removed in the sequel (already) but in this version, each and every level has it's own little highscore. It helps with the overall plan of each level, to help you get that more perfect score.
Which route is best? Which path gets you more? Left or Right?

..Definitely more Puzzle than Action, but I guess it's not quite "Level 6" enough!

Aw well, can't win 'em all.

Try the sequel, that at least has ghosts in it!

In fact I really thought about your level 6 theory while playing and couldn't believe that you made a game with such easy early levels while most of your other games start where it gets really hard.

But to say it once more: I dont't think that it's a bad game and I like some of the unlockables. But there are several of your games that I like much more (Centipong, HS: Horizontal Shooter, Tetripong).

BTW: Doesn't the online highscore table work? When I use the right mouse button, the game starts to update the table and in the end I get nothing.

Online should be working, seems to work my end, but does at least explain why no-one seems to ever upload their highscores!!
There's currently about 40+ scores on the scoreboard, so it seems to be a case of "works for some"..
*shrugs*

Lack of action seems to be a fairly common complaint.
Without the ghosts chasing you, the game slows down, but if you do proper AI chasing, the game becomes impossible to actually play because you're not able to plan your nice big routes...
It's a very complex balance you have to work out.
I'm not quite there yet, but I am (again!!) thinking about ways to solve this very obscure dilemma.

..

seems this game is still not quite done yet.

I can't really do the original game, and two sequels within the same few months, can I?!!?

Feel free to throw ideas into the fold.

Add some nifty 3D animations and nude babes. It usually shuts the audience up.

A time limit would be cool. It's nothing special, but at least it prevents the player from perfect planning.

I also wouldn't say it's an arcade game, rather strategy / logic, so i won't compare it to pacman :) Some nice graphical effects in this game. Jayenkay takes an old platform, and applies new game rules. Unfortunately, i think these new rules aren't as interesting, and pulls it out in comparing to labyrinth- and "find the way out" games (not that they aren't interesting in their own way).
Good game, but rather monotonous. The *nit* *nat* *nit* *nat* sound from pacman eating, gets into you head if you play it for too long :)

(Quote: It's not true that games like Pacman have a psychological effect on people, else they would be addicted to eating magic pills, and listening to repetetive electronic music.)
