Tanks Territory

Post by eMTe »

Overhead shooter for one or two players. Your goal in each level is to defend your radar (or more radars in later levels) from enemy tanks. Meanwhile, you can also drive over people. Meaningless and plotless fun with simple controls and pretty graphics.

This one troubles me a bit. It is hectic, noisy, addictive and fun. It is also a concept seen before - Battle Tanks etc. This one is actually a bit better in some ways, and to some maye a bit worse. The strategic aspect in this game can sometimes be replaced by simply placing yourself in the perfect location and blast away, while enemies dance cluelessly into your shells. The AI is not impressive, but I am not sure it was meant to be. The many different obstacles in the form of turrets, walls and stunners makes it hard enough to battle the levels even without the many tanks being thrown at you. Fortunately the tanks spawn as their numbers decrease, and only until all the enemy spawns are used up. This means the levels wont be too crowded with enemies and bullets flying.
The many background effects also play a big role int his game. Soemtimes a huge missile will come flying over the screen and have you flinch even though you know it wont hit the ground but is simply a background effect. Jetfighters, bombers and helicopters cross the screen as well and from time to time they actually interact with the environment, either by throwing goods for you to pickup, or by bombing the level.
