Alien Racer

Post by Chroelle »

Alien Racer was an entry for the 2003 Alienware / Dark Basic programming competition.

-Normal Race
In this mode you race against three opponents, three times around the track. Beware of the red balls which bounce around the track, as these decrease your health (indicated in the top right corner of the screen). Driving through the blue tubes of light will replenish your health. If your health reaches zero, your hoverboard will temporarily break down, and you will be forced to a very slow speed for a period of time. In certain places around the track are 'turbos', which increase your speed for a short amount of time. There is also a green 'Super turbo' which increases your speed for a longer length of time. The rings dotted around the track are 'trick' items - drive into one of the rings and your alien will perform a trick! Press escape to quit the game and return to the menu, or 'P' to pause the game.

Tips:
- Turn just before the turn, so you can 'skid' around into the turn.
- drive over as many turbos as you can - try and get the turbo at the beginning of the home straight too.

-Time trial
This mode is where you can practice your driving, whilst trying to clock up your best time for a lap around the track. You can have as many laps as you want, and the same rules for the turbos, red bouncy balls etc. apply as in the 'normal race' mode. Press escape to quit the game and return to the menu.

-Arcade
In this mode you must reach the numerous checkpoints around the track before your time runs out. Your time is constantly decreasing in this mode, but every time you reach a checkpoint, your time increases by a certain amount. The aim in this mode is to keep going for as long as possible, without your time running out. The same rules for the turbos, red bouncy balls etc. apply as in the 'normal race' mode. Press escape to quit the game and return to the menu.
