Atomic Worm

Post by eMTe »

Snake-like game with additional features. Worm collects tokens lengthening its body, but collecting three identical tokens in a row removes them. Besides, there are many differently shaped fields with different sets of paths. And playfield sometimes swirls. Fun.

Tony wrote me today and said there was also a crash bug which occurred when exiting the game. He fixed that bug in build v1.36 which is downloadable now. As for problems experienced by us he needs error logs. DV, you still have AW on your HD? :D

I can't remember what version it was, and i'm on a public computer right now, so i can't see it. But yes, i have it on my home computer, both the installed program and the installer. :) I can send the log file when i get it.

Edit: Downloaded v1.36.

Game works fine for me.

But I think controlling with the mouse is a bit hard to master. I loose most of my lives because the worm doesn't move to the direction I want him to go...

Should work fine for everyone, because lose-A-life-bug has also been fixed...

Yes. It doesn't crash when you die anymore. Though it's not as good for motivation as before. :)

It's very hard to control with the keyboard. If the developer wants feedback, we could tell him that.
It's illogical what direction you should press to go a specific route. It would be better if, when you pressed left, it would change route to the one counter-clockwise of the selected, and likewise when pressing right, it's clockwise.

I did get the same error even after installing v1.36, though it worked the first time.
I have send the error logs for both versions to [email protected].

Problem solved. It seemed it was sort of an early version of v1.36, where it wasn't fixed yet. After downloading it again, it worked fine.

Great. This is how people should cooperate. Quick. Now imagine ONE mandatory global forum where developers post their games and they get immediate responses from thousands of accidental beta-testers. If there were such site AW would be fixed in an hour maybe. We had to find the game and bug ourselves.

I hate free internet. :)

The music and different coloured themes, gives this game a deep atmosphere that makes it have the feel of quality to it, methinks.

This game is really hard to control. It doesn't matter if I use the keyboard, a controller or the mouse (which worked best), the result is always the same. The worm doesn't move to the direction I want it to and so I loose lives by accident. That takes away most of the fun for me.

I like the design and the soundtrack though, but altogether I don't like the game too much.

Yes, but you have to move the mouse coursor perfectly along the lines and far too often I was too far away and changed the direction by mistake. It's not a bug, but it's not good controlling as well.

When you say perfectly along the lines, it sounds to me as you have to position your cursor exactly parallel with the direction to go. But i think that wasn't what you meant. Anyway. :)

I also think that when you're moving fast, it can get quite difficult to manage directions. The way i manage, is not to have the cursor on the lines themself, but out in the corners of the screen, and then just move it quickly around to change direction.

Now, thx to CWF and its members you can check how "positioning your cursor exactly parallel with the direction to go" works. Go!
