Facing the inevitable.

Post by Maz »

okay. It is time to officially admitt it.

It is time to officially step down from the duty. I have been more or less inactive whole past year, people here hardly recognize my - once so wellknown - avatar.

It was fun trip, and I am proud I had my part to play in kicking the CWF alive. And I like each of you in here my fellows :) However, I have not done any major feature/improvenment since... well, when was the last time?? I have barely managed to try fixing fatal bugs. Now with upcoming changes (I'll let someone else to reveal the secret when the time is right), Zyx is far better prepared to take care of techy side of this baby :) So I feel I leave it in good hands :)

I am not going to vanish totally. Actually, nothing will propably change. I just wanted to make my lack of participation officially known.

-Maz.

I normally dont like goodbyes, but since it is explanation of long-existing situation and not farewell of any sort I like it. ;)

So...goodbye Maz tech expert, welcome Maz proud member of CWF community? ;)

Maz, CWF is like the mafia. You never really quit them.

I hope this means more MazPong development.

...and your post makes me think who is CWF at the moment. Beginning of the year is a good time for a roundup. Forgetting Polish forum which is totally dead, German and Danish ones are a bit dead also. Sorry if I forgot someone who is here for a long time, but CWF at the moment is composed of Chroelle, Zyx, Pater Alf, me, Scythe, you, Pager, Railo and Tank with majority of posting traffic pointed towards gaming topics, because other forums are pretty much dead also.

This is how I see it and I dont know if it's bad or good; this is how CWF evolved and we must accept it. ;)

That reminds me that we should update our crew section (on the frontpage). Baldie, Ogre, mrgreen, SGWS, Pitkin, Dizi and many more that are no longer around are still mentioned there.

BTW: shouldn't the topic be Facing the inevitable?

We should also redesign forums I think (separate active ones and inactive ones), tidy up discussions because crew forums are totally dead also, move some threads to archives and generally discuss things in atmosphere of "new beginning", because there were too many changes in crew and site development to talk in 17 different topics. ;)

What you think?

Since I'm only active in so much as I visit the site daily, I'm not much of a crew member either...

With my change in daily schedule, I am actually more active here. Not as active as some, but it is an improvement.

Hope all goes well for you Maz!

@Maz: Like Zyx said, you never actually leave you just change positions. So I hope to have you in here as a crew member forever, but maybe not as the head of Coding. I think you can easily keep the administrator post without anyone pointing fingers at your time spent.
Administration is more or less something that all of us do. I dont feel that we are above anyone else except in decisions that people might think requires our particular attention, and that is often more a question that ends up being addressed to everyone and not just us.

Regarding cleaning up.
Maybe we should simplify some things. Maybe we dont need a coding departement and a design department, but simply need a dev department.
MAybe we dont need as many different forums as we have currently, and maybe we dont need so many different crewpositions, but simply need a CREW-position.
I think that anyone participating in the site currently deserves the CREW label. And so what if you dont spend hours every day trying to get this site even better, because you just got a new game and really want to play that. So what if you disappear for a week without notice (as long as you return). I think everyone in here has truelly deserved to be called co-owner/crew of this site.
Lets all agree that 2008 was the year that Zyx took over from MAz in leading the coding effort. But lets also agree that it was well deserved that Maz got a break. When you first approached us regarding this forum, you told me that you were willing to help with development but not lead, and you had 3 or so guys willing to help in the development. It was clear very fast that you were the visionary and that you were the hardworker. You even got a kid more in this time, and still kept going strong. CUDOS!
I say BRAVO, and welcome to Maz the more regular not so leading crewmember. :D
Thanks for all the effort, and I hope you still feel like participating for years to come.
Cheers. (couldn't help it. I felt like I was making a speech.)

I haven't quite figured out how to put horse heads in the want-to-be-quiters virtual beds, but I'm working on it...maybe we could just send them an e-mail with a picture of a horse's head or something...

@Maz, we could always make you one of those Supervisor Coders...one of those guys that are so good at coding they get everyone else to do it for them...

I am going to make a different thread about cleaning out forums, since this is actually not the place for it, now that I think about it. :)

But I understand your message Maz, and I hope you get mine too :)
