Pushover (2008)

Post by Zyx »

Pushover is a fun puzzle game originally published by Ocean in 1992. In this game you control an ant that can walk along platforms that are connected with ladders. On those platforms are dominos that need to fall according to some rules.

So that is the original of this one:

Or am I misunderstanding something. Or is this another remake of the game? (Not thereby saying that it doesn't belong here.)

Yeah, it's another remake, but as true to the original as possible. I thought I'd seen something like it already here, but somehow that one didn't come up when I searched for "pushover".

The other difference (and which makes all the difference for me) is that this should work on all platforms, Pushover (Remake) is only for Windows.

Well, at 0.0.1 the game is a bit broken on my Mac (PPC, it might fare better on Intel-based). The timer runs too fast and graphics are a bit off, but it does run.

And for those risky enough to try it on Linux or Mac, it doesn't state it but it requires LibSDL (+ libsdl_mixer and libsdl_ttf).

Platform independence might be the big plus of this remake. In all other points it can't compare with the excellent remake by Ishisoft. Level desin is the same (I think it's the original level design), but there is no music, no working fullscreen mode and the animation isn't very smooth. On the other hand it's just a first public version, so there should be lots of space for improvement.

So are you saying this game isn't finished yet, because then it might need to be moved to the under development section...?

0.0.1 doesnt sound good, but actually it's fully playable original game. Guy wants to make major improvements, so he considers this release as first development stage. That's what I think. :)

Well, it playable and there is the complete levelset from the original Pushover game. So I don't think it belongs in the "In Development" section. But the developer is still working on it ans so I assume that we can expect several updates and improvements in the future...

Edit: eMTe was faster.
