Marathon: Aleph One

Post by eMTe »

You're a security officer defending giant spaceship Marathon from aliens, unveiling the bigger plot behind what seems to be simple attack from outside.

First game in Marathon series (followed by Durandal and Infinity), formerly released for Macintosh only, now available on PC via Aleph One engine, based on Durandal. Aleph One supports all three games and many additional scenarios.

Developer of original: Bungie Software

First click on proper OS and download Aleph, than choose one of scenarios and copy it to Aleph folder.

Boy, is this game atmospheric. Even if I played only first level so far and enemies look like paper toys. Oldie feel to it.

Strange thing for fps: you cant jump. Dont look for missing key! :D

I do believe we should treat sequels and original Marathon as one game. They werent originally and still arent one game, but all are very similar, share the story and thx to Aleph One there are now great additional scenarios. Another thing is that to play all original and new games you have to download Aleph One engine first and only then install the actual game. So Aleph makes, more or less, one game from them all. besides, it's easier to have them all in one place, for practical reasons.

Tell me what you think and I'll rewrite the first post.

I say go play and decide only later! I may trick you, because I like this game and it reminds me of best oldies in genre. Especially one level in Tempus Irae which is obviously patterned upon sewer level in Dark Forces, arguably best fps ever made. Fps hater has spoken. :D

I tidied up first post and left info for first part of the series for now.

Read original manual to understand what's going on exactly on Marathon ship.

Not sure if this is better than Doom, but it's no less scary and claustrophobic. If it were released for PC it would be an instant hit.
