Dirty Split

Post by eMTe »

When a plastic surgeon is found murdered in his office the police are quick to apprehend a prime suspect. It is a textbook case - except the suspect didn’t do it. There is more to the deceased doctor than meets the eye. Much more.

You will lead private investigator Alan Baxter to the truth as an ever-increasing mystery unravels before his eyes.

Strange graphic bugs caused this to be unplayable for me.

Well, another proof that freeware adventures don't have to hide behind professional products any longer. Just look at the beautiful graphics and listen to the excellent soundtrack and voice acting...

Well done, Dreamagination Entertainment!!!

OK, now my curiousity is piqued and I am going to download this game. It's 183 MB so I'll go grab a cup of coffee while it downloads!

I just read the license as I was install the game:

2. LICENSE

Dreamagination Entertainment grants, and the customer accepts, a nontransferable and nonexclusive license to use the Software on the following terms and conditions:

You are allowed to distribute copies of the software.

You are allowed to copy the software as often as you want.

You are NOT allowed to:

a) Sell the software on any medium or over a paid internet service without written permission from Dreamagination Entertainment. We encourage that you ask for a permission in any case you want to present the software on a public website or any other medium.

b) Rent, lease, sub-license, loan, modify, alter, adapt, merge, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, or re-package the software into another product, or to disassemble it or create derivative works, based on the whole, or any part, of the software or its associated documentation.

So I think, if accepted here, we can host it.

Well, about the technical side of the game, there is nothing I can complain about. Clear and colourful graphics in a style I personally like, an excellent soundtrack and very good voice acting (which could have been a bit louder in some places).

But let's come to the content: The story is interesting and you don't know what's going on right from the beginning. That's fine. But on the other hand the puzzles are much too easy to solve. Whenever there seems to be a problem, the solution is just a few clicks away. This is a typical problem for amateur/fan adventures as it seems there is nothing harder than to create good and challenging puzzles...

I felt entertained anyway!

Easiness is definitely a problem here! DS is good as a cartoon though.

Ive finished it and I'm even more disappointed than when I finished Broken Sword. Plot is linear, hints given by main character and notebook are in fact solutions (hints are not needed anyway - linearity prevents from using brain well enough) and puzzles are...wait, what puzzles? Really bad game with very good plot, dialogues and fantastic technical side. Great pleasure to click, pain to play, easy to forget.

I actually liked this quite a lot. I think it deserves alot of credit on sound, graphic, voiceacting and gameplay. Not to mention the plot that is not obvious from the get go. Sure after a while you get an idea, but not until the end is the full story revealed and solved.
Oh and not to mention the many hidden cameos and the likes bound to the 60's and films surrounding that era. The couple in the lobby sure does look familiar. :)

I like this and I think they could very easily make this into a series with Mr. Baxter in the lead.

Did you see the bloopers in the credits? The voiceact bloopers are fun to hear. Not haha funny, but it is always nice to know that there are actual people behind the computergraphics.

Oh and try to examine the contents of the desk in the policeprecinct before going in to the chiefs office.

A good game in my book.
