Just want to throw my WIP (Work in Progress) out there. Here's an outline of the gameplay:
1) You have movement just like that of 'Asteroids' (Implemented)
2) Instead of blowing up rocks, you are blowing up aliens (Implemented)
3) You have 3 'wingmen' who you can order to defend you (Implemented), attack a certain enemy(implemented), go to an area of the screen(working on it), etc
Here's the basic controls:
tab-wingmen form on player
enter-wingmen target new enemy
left, right, up, down keys-move ship
AWSD-move target location, if in that mode
I have the basic gameplay down, just need to polish it, add in a menu system for the starting screens, and add level progression. Thoughts?

Will the wingmen have any form of AI? That is, can they react independently to dangers near them? Or do you actually control two ships (I say two, because it sounds like the wingmen are all controlled as one) - 1 precisely and 1 with basic commands, and have to watch out for 4? Is that the challenge of the gameplay?
Also, my advice is to test your keyboard layout and make sure it's not completely fingersnapping, or put in the option to change the layout. That could mean the difference between fun and unplayable.

Any chance for adding mouse control? Mouse for ship or wingman - to choose.
Also, have you ever heard of Wizball? There's interesting control system there. You have your "wingman" that follows your movement all the time, but if you want you can start moving him by pressing and holding fire button. This stops your ship, but lets you control wingman.

I love when you can control your allies. In the FPS Freedom Fighter you could recruit and control fellow fighters, and it really was a blast. There is something about being able to choose wether to be an agressive front line fighter yourself or be a strategically placed commander and planner.
I like the idea you did this over, and I am sure to try it once its out. How far off is the ETA?

Have you gotten the menusystems etc up and working? I am looking forward to trying this one out. Let me know if you need testers.
