SuperTuxKart

Post by eMTe »

SuperTuxKart is a free 3d kart racing game, focusing on fun and not on realistic racing physics. Race with your kart on more than 10 tracks against Tux and his friends and be the first to cross the finishing line. With many items you can make sure that you will win. You can play with up to 4 friends on one PC racing against each other, or just try to beat the computer.

See the great lighthouse or drive through the sand and visit the pyramids. Race under water or in space, watching the stars passing by. Have some rest under the palms on the beach (watching the other karts overtaking you :) ). But don't fall in the volcano.

You can do a single race against other karts, compete in one of several Grand Prix, or try to beat the high score in time trials on your own.

Ok, lets be honest - this isn't MarioKart. But it is a linux/gpl-maddened clone of it.
A great game with lots of time to spend on it. The only thing I needed was an editor, but I am not sure I would actually use it had it been there. :)
Currently testing Life version 2.9 (With added second child)

A game that looks quite polished. I had a lot of fun playing through the challenges in this game. Very good gameplay, and well made levels. Some of them are inspired by Mario Kart 64 which i've played a lot of back in the days.

Well, it's certainly not "Super MarioKart". But who cares as long as it is nearly as good. Highly entertaining and addictive and with lots of different tracks, grand prixs, unlockables, challenges and different game modes it should be good fun for quite a time. And best thing is that it is very easy to learn. No great physics you have to care about, just good old easy racing fun. Great!

Boy, this game changed a lot over these four years when I havent played it. Improved graphics and handling, cool environmental effects, more characters, more tracks. Good that this projects hasnt been abandoned and left undeveloped like it often happens.

Btw, current version is 0.7.3.
