Alien Arena 2008

Post by Alienrace »

COR Entertainment, LLC announces the release of Alien Arena 2008, a freeware, opensourced FPS.

This game is the followup to the critically acclaimed( http://www.linux.com/feature/119775 ) Alien Arena 2007, and features nearly all new game media, gameplay improvements, and a client that has been signifigantly upgraded for improved visual effects as well as major optimizations that greatly improve the fluidity and performance.

Alien Arena 2008 also offers a change to it's overall theme, moving towards a slightler darker, more serious tone, while still retaining a good bit of it's retro style, creating an interesting marriage between classic and modern sci-fi. This resulted in completely new player models, many new weapon models and textures, and seventeen new levels.

There are major improvements in weapon effects, per-pixel lighting, texture resolution, and resource usage, as well as the addition of a cross platform server browser, FUSE. Weapons have been tweaked for better balance, and movement has been enhanced with the addition of dodging abilities. Alien Arena 2008 will run on Windows and Linux, and the OSX/Mac port will be released in one week.

Thanks for announcing. The previous AA was excellent so maybe this will end up in here too. I am pretty confident about it.

I went and had me some fastpaced fun. I was blasting left and right, which was good clean fun. I really like the alien looks (Mars Attacks) and the idea is all together great. FPshooters are very rarely innovative, but I liked the idea on this one, and some of the graphic details was way better than I would have expected. (And I dont underestimate Alien Arena games).
I liked the weaponry, and the levels, however as always it will take a good deal of time before you are comfortable in the levels sine the pace is so high that you often end up tumbling about trying to find something to hit, while at the same time doing your best not to get found yourself.

Maybe some more info before you enter the action would be nice. I was afraid I couldn't find the jump, crouch etc. keys... And I am worried I missed some options. But an amazing game nonetheless.
Oh and happy birthday the other day. :D
