Harpooned

Post by Pater Alf »

"Harponned" is a comment on the japanese practise to kill hundreds of whales every year for "scientific" reasons. The game is quite cynical and bloody and while it's fun to play on the one hand, you might start thinking about whaling on the other hand.

You play the role of a japanese whaling boat and it's your task to kill as many whales as possible (of course for scientific reasons). But be careful to avoid collisions with icebergs as well as with protestors boats...

"Harpooned" matches with my sense of humour. I like it that it isn't too moralic and just tells you that whaling is bad, but "hides" its message in cynical comments like "Super Scientific" when you kill one of the rare white whales or giving you the result of your research in cat food and whale burgers.
I think doing it that way "Harpooned" will reach many people that normally are immune against any political or ecological statements. And it sure feels strange to ship through the empy seas at the end of the game, leaving a trace of blood behind you.

Game is quite short, but I see this as part of the concept. I think the developer wanted everybody to see the end of the game to get the message.

This game is a piece of moralistic crap that tries to tell you what to think. I'm going out to kill a whale now just to spite the people who made this.

If you think "Harpooned" is too morally, you should maybe try out Seal Hunter...

A new version of "Harpooned" is available. There's now a Windows and a Mac version and the game includes some new features:

"Capture protesters ability - Tired of protesters getting in your way? Don’t harpoon them, kidnap them! Simply press the ‘C’ key to capture protesters that get too close to your research vessel.

Online leaderboards - Compete for the rank of top scientist with other players from all over the world."

You can download the new version from our game info page:
