Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator - Case 4

Post by eMTe »

Ben's latest case finds him investigating the mysterious Number 50, Berkeley Square, London. The site of several ghost stories, infamous for its famous "horror", paranormal activity at Number 50 has been dormant for nearly 100 years. Until now...

"Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator - Case 4: Horror at Number 50" isn't as good as case 3, but I wouldn't consider it a bad game. Again I liked the story (a number of persons is trapped in a haunted house - that's classic) and the characters (especially the new ones).

On the other hand the puzzles weren't as good as in the other games. Most of the time you just walk around and talk to everybody. And to be honest, I wasn't satisfied with the end of the case. Spoiler!!! I was waiting for a reason why the house was haunted (something related to the marks on the wall or the hidden room), but there wasn't any. The ghost was just evil... End of Spoiler!

If this was a story telling game, you should be able to make some decisions to influence the story (like in Lost in the Nightmare), and you shouldn't have to walk around aimlessly to trigger the next chapter. If this was an adventure game, there should be more puzzles and some with a little challenge. This was straightforward walk from A to B, find C, use C on D, rinse, repeat.

As likable as the characters may be, it falls short as both story and adventure.
