What is "Clonk"?
"Clonk is an entertaining, action-packed game of strategy, tactics, and skill. It can be played by a single player, with up to four players on one computer, or any number of players in local networks or via internet.
The game is played in realtime rounds in which each player controls his hardy crew of clonks in order to either mine resources and build up a base or eliminate the opponent's crew.
Run-time generated or predefined landscapes feature everything from hills, mountains, lakes, deserts, arctic wastelands to volcanic rocks, islands floating in mid-air or suboceanic terrain. This guarantees a neverending variety of scenarios.
Experience changing weather conditions with rain, snow, thunderstorms, as well as tectonics and hectic animal activity. A unique physics engine allows rain, flowing water, crumbling earth, snow drifts, lakes of lava...
Build new structures using materials you have created in complex production chains. Extend your base and prepare for battle by developing new weapons and tactics.
There is an almost unlimited number of options to customize the game. Experienced players can create their own scenarios and set individual game goals to create new mission objectives.
More advanced players can go even further. Clonk features a powerful and very flexible scripting language with full technical documentation. Want even more? For programmers the full source code of the current official version is publicly available.
Clonk is a strongly community based game. There are thousands of players in Germany and around the world who meet, play, edit, develop, and extend this game every day and have filled the 12-year-history of this project with unceasing activity.
Clonk is international: through community contributions, the language base of the game (more than 20,000 words) has been translated into ten different languages.
The most up-to-date version of Clonk is shareware. You can test the game for free. Extended scenarios or editing features are available with a registration.
Previous versions of the game are freeware and offer a convenient entry (and months of playing fun) at no cost."
About "Clonk Planet"
"Clonk Planet was the sequel to Clonk 4. Its new menu system for the first time provided access to all game elements through a single general view. Player files, scenarios, and object definitions could be conveniently organized by drag 'n' drop.
The main new feature of Clonk Planet was its networking capability. Any number of players on any number of computers could join in the same clonk realtime world. With a good connection, even internet games were possible. Clonk Planet also featured mouse control with completely redesigned game menus suitable for beginners and large strategic or economic scenarios."

This game could have so much more to offer, but shoots itself in the foot, with poor pathfinding, annoying humdrum of repetitions to get even the slightest things done. At least as a single player experience. It does however have a very positive thing regarding the humdrum - you dont have to eg. go to the elevator and press the mouse to go down and then press the iron or something to pick it up - you can do this with one click of the mouse on the ressource. But I am not sure this is enough to keep it afloat. The game simply lacks content.

I tried hard to like the game, but it has too many flaws. Most annoying things are pathfinding and digging. Most of the time my clonks walked around like they were crazy and didn't do what I wanted them to do.
There are also some nice things like the nice graphics, many different maps and missions and the multiplayer mode.
