S.W.I.N.E.

Post by Maz »

On August 3, under the orders of General Iron Tusk, the NATIONAL ARMY OF PIGS crossed the border without warning and penetrated deep into Carrotland territory. Within only two weeks, they’d burned everything to the ground. The capital city is under blockade. As a result of the bitter fighting, the rabbit army is decimated. Towns and villages are deserted. The defense’s determined efforts have not been crowned by success, and their reduced army cannot stop the hordes of swine. In desperation, the government and the staff of generals reach the following decision: Because overwhelming Iron Tusk’s war machine with a frontal attack is impossible, we will have to resort to subterfuge. From the remains of their reserves, the rabbits create a powerful fighting force. Without suffering too many losses, this force must harass and sneak attack the enemy until they lose all their supply lines and military objectives. Now, all that remains is to find a capable officer who can lead this operation.

S.W.I.N.E. is a real-time tactical strategy game in which you must carry out extremely varied missions while taking advantage of the terrain and your units’ special abilities. Your army’s abilities and strengths will then develop over the course of the game. Before and during the missions, you will also have the opportunity to purchase or sell units, and upgrade or augment them with various items of equipment. However, this will cost you some of the strategic points (SP) you receive for destroying enemy objects (units, buildings, etc.) and for successfully completing your missions. Further strategical components include the use of the air force and supply trailers (repairs, ammunition, and fuel). Clever exploitation of the terrain, selecting the proper units, and the optimum utilization of your abilities will enable even a small force to do battle against an enemy with numerical superiority.

This one is huge, but looks promising. At least I liked the Wiki page which introduced this game :) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.W.I.N.E. )

However I believe the permission to host this should be asked... (I have not tried this out, it seems to be Windows Only)

Downloaded it....years ago. Since I generally like farm animals I liked this game too. Notice that these words come from the mouth of player who HATES RTSes.

Be aware that bigger developers usually release their commercial games as freeware to promote THEMSELVES and THEIR SITES, not the spirit of gaming or game. Permission unobtainable before 2012 methinks. :)

I remember when this was released as a commercial game. I was thinking of buying it, but ended up not doing it - simply due to forgetfulness.
It seems that was a good thing. We should indeed try and get permission and see if they will let us host this game.

EDIT:

I wrote them about hosting. They are looking for mirrors for the game. :D

My spies provided me with critical informations: Stormregion ceased to exist. Permission can be probably obtained from 10tacle Studios AG which possesses rights to S.W.I.N.E. Or it doesnt. They probably dont know it also.

Has anyone had problems running the campaigns? I tried running the single player but the game crashes on me every single time. I tried updating the game and that did absolutely nothing. I was able to run the tutorial to the end, so it bugs me a bit that it wont work.
Please try it out and tell me what you encounter.

I didn't have any problems running the game, except for having a black screen when the videos are playing.

I quite like this game. Strategical vehicle combat. A lot of small details are in it. Like how the units are whispering when it's a night time infiltration mission, and how the vehicles actually behave like real vehicles and reverse when there is not much space to turn instead of immediately turning in the direction they are moving like other real-time-strategy games. The details of all objects in the game, from the vehicles, to the scenery.

Maybe it's something about it needing the .NET Framework 2.0 or Visual C++ Redistributable or DirectX End-user Runtimes.
