5 Days a Stranger

Post by Pater Alf »

"5 Days a Stranger" is one of the best and most atmospheric adventure games ever made with the AGS engine. Now there's going to be a 3D remake of it.

"Features:

* Drags point and click adventures into the 21st Century: Intuitive adventure game interface integrated with modern first person navigation
* Tense supernatural mystery: Your survival depends on your wits, lateral thinking and courage
* 5 Days of Horror: The DeFoe manor changes and reacts to your actions and those of the game characters over five days
* High detail 'live' environments, using the Source engine: Highly interactive, highly immersive
* Dynamically shot conversations: More than two bloody camera angles!
* Professional Voice Acting — Acquiring the services of professional voice talent & recording
* English ghost story setting - but with 'slasher'-style villain
* Expanded storyline with beginning, middle AND satisfying end!" (taken from the official homepage)

The developers plan to release the game in late third quarter of 2008

Lol!

I wonder what Yahtzee thinks of it. :D

Well, I think he likes it! Here's a quote from the FAQ:

"Does Yahtzee know you're doing this?

Yes, Yahtzee has been involved with the project from the outset and has given lots of input into the additions and changes we're making to the original 5 Days story.

Wh... hang on... changes? Blasphemy!

Well, the change of presentation format from 2D point'n'click to 3D first-person necessarily mandates a few tweaks. Beyond that though, there's additional dialogue and extra scenes conceived by Yahtzee himself, there are some new and expanded puzzles and a few more things we're not going to reveal just yet. Rest assured, there are no motorcycle chase scenes or bloody shootouts!"

So, basically, this is still Yahtzee's game and has his blessing, but since Y is not 3D artist he likes the idea of turning his most famous work into professional looking game. Great.

What's wrong with motorcycle chase scenes? :pipe:

I have visited it from time to time and there was no nearly no progress reported (neither on the main page nor in the forums).

Now the homepage is gone, there doesn't seem to be a new one, the last news (when you use Google) are about half a year old and there is no comment about the game on fullyramblomatic.

I'm not very optimistic about this game...
