A Tale of Two Kingdoms

Post by eMTe »

From Crystal Shard, makers of Leylines, comes what is definitely one of the best AGS game designed ever and easily the best Sierra-style independent game.

http://taleoftwokingdoms.com/

The ancient kingdom of Theylinn is beset by enemies. Within the castle walls, nobles vie for the old King's favor, and not everybody is happy with the sole heir to the throne, princess Rhiannon.
Meanwhile, danger approaches, in the form of an invading army, a hostile giant, and a mercenary troop who are ancient enemies of the Theylann king.
And there is mystery yet. For hidden within the borders of Theylinn lies a second kingdom, named Thierna na Oge, where the faeries reign. Little is known about this shrouded, exotic realm.

Features five different endings, several sidequests and alternate solutions, teamwork with non-player characters, 75 minutes of high quality music and director's commentary.

A must play.

I downloaded it some time ago, but haven´t tried it yet (I only looked at the intro). But after your description I´m quite curious...

You can move your character with cursor keys! Discovered it by accident few minutes ago. Now I must check if there isnt also text parser to reveal somehow. :D

I think this is what I'll be spending my time with tomorrow. So far, it's looking pretty good. Very, very Sierra-ish. Which is not a terrible thing.

This game is, quite simply, amazing. It's a commercial game length adventure with multiple solutions, a ton of optional side quests, great looking graphics, fine music, and entertaining plot.

If I have to point out bad things, I'd say that it's impossible to get several of the side quests without a walkthrough. The things you need to do are that obscure. But since the side quests are entirely optional, that's hardly reason to fault the game. Instead, you'll likely finish a couple of these, which extends the length of the already impressive game.

I experienced two crashes playing through it, one definitely related to something in the game, the other a complete system crash that may or may not have been caused by the game. Hardly enough to trouble me, since replaying it did not cause those crashes again.

I enjoyed this much more than the King's Quest games that seem to have inspired it!

I wrote a 100% Wisdom/Honour guide for when we host it (I'm assuming it'll pass rating with flying colours).

Anybody wanting it before then, just let me know.

I added the 100% Wisdom/Honor guide, but I made a snafu and the first .txt one was crap (no line breaks), so I uploaded a second one in .rtf instead. Now the first one needs to be deleted... sorry... (not the file, I already deleted that, just the DL link)

I'm just curious and searching for all would require heaps of time... What other games received perfect score from ghs? Hurrican? Wesnoth? I'm just curious. Do you remember?

That's easy enough:

ATOTK
Battle for Wesnoth
Hurrican
ScummVM (not a game, but...)
The Spirit Engine
Warzone 2100

My guess is that Scythe used this site:
http://curlysworldoffreeware.com/search ... s&search=1

Then he looked to the right. :D

But some was forgotten:
Star Wars - The battle of Yavin
The spirit Engine
Pushover remake

I certainly did not forget The Spirit Engine! You will be dragged to court over these false allegations! :p
