The Infinity String

Post by Pater Alf »

"The Infinity String" is the new adventure by Sektor 13 (developer of "Stargate Adventure"). And again it is a mystery game including aliens, long forgotten cultures and strange artefacts...

Here's what the developer wrote about the story:
"Your name is Yerik Elnar. You are scientist working for United States. In late 2009 a ruins were found in Antartica by Russian explorers. A year later a complete research base was built to study the findings. Team consisted of 7 russians, 5 americans and 2 germans. 1 year later USA send you as an additional help. You arrive with the helicopter. But strange things begin to happen..."

The game really has a nice atmosphere, a great soundtrack (I think most of it was taken from Vangelis) and lots of well made technical details (like the footprints in the snow). If you liked the classic adventures "The Dig" and "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis", then you should give this one a try...

Status: They gave us permission to host "Stargate Adventure", so I don't think there will be any problems. I will write a mail...

Downloaded, checked, like some things, dont like some things, havent played anything for...or more, so I feel a little dizzy - imagine launching ANY computer game after several weeks and playing and being happy and...

Actually game has nothing to do with Indy, but it resembles The Dig strongly (atmosphere, alien and philosophical themes), Sektor has his own style though.

His games are getting better and better. He'll be big.

A good length to this adventure, and the graphics are really nice for an AGS game. Beautiful music (but then it's not exactly original). While the game has a nice atmosphere, it suffers from a complete lack of personality. Characters are simply uninteresting (the few that are there). The plot is confusing, more so due to the occasionally severely broken English (an extension cord is a "Power Lengthening Device" - ungh!).

Puzzles are a mixed bag of beans. Sometimes you're left completely clueless. Often, to advance, you need to visit all locations to trigger an encounter. Other times, you need to do something obscure. Only rarely are you presented with an immediate task that you go about trying to solve. Rather, you have to backtrack when you find new items and return to an old problem. This is both good and bad.

As an adventure game it has good things going for it - length and puzzles. As a story, it doesn't do very well, due to uninteresting characters and somewhat confusing plot.

Yep, you can clearly see that the developer isn't a native speaker of English. As far as I know he wrote the game in his own language and it was translated afterward by some other guy.

I'm still working on a German translation (it's done, but I have to do some more corrections) and it was hard to do, because of lots of strange expressions in the original version and because I didn't had the game at my side when I translated it...

I followed the link and to bluecup and the 1st mirror isn't working properly (you get a 1.8MB file from it instead of 30 something MB). The other is working though, but that is a fileshare link, so we better get this game validated so we can get it on our site and make downloading it much easier :D.

Done! There shouldn't be any more download problems in the future, as we have "The Infinity String" on our own site now:

I updated the file and now the version you can find on CWF includes a german translation (done by myself) as well. As far as I can see we're the only freeware site where you can find that version of "The Infinity String" by now.
