Earl Mansin

Post by Pater Alf »

Well, Earl Mansin sure isn't the nicest guy on earth. He's a murderer who was sentenced to death 27 years ago. And now there is the final phone call from the gouvenor that will send him on the electric chair. So now it's time to escape the prison and you´re the one who should help him with his task...

This game is simply brilliant! It sure isn't very long, but some of the puzzles are quite clever and tricky and it took me some time to solve them.
The graphics of the "Earl Mansin" are fantastic, the soundtrack is simply amazing and there is great voice acting for the whole game. I really love this one!

I found a bug:

Don't take the hammer before you got rid of the second security guard!!!

If you do so you won't be able to finish the game... :(

Version 1.1 of "Earl Mansin" is out now.

The hammer bug is gone now, the developer compressed the video and speech files (download size is now something about 66 MB) and the game includes a german translation done by myself (but there are still some fonts issues and minor grammatical erors and typos, so there might be another patch soon).

Btw: Adrian Bernstein was so friendly to put a link to CWF on the official "Earl Mansin" homepage... :)

Since you got contact with him, you might be able to ask him if he needs a Danish translation. How long is the translation file (how many pages with size 12 for example.)
I am more than willing to do a Dansih version of the game, though I haven't tried it yet, but I will.

I'm pretty sure he will like a danish translation of his game (in fact I thought about asking you before). I will ask him the next time I contact him (should be today or tomorrow when I send him the update of my translation).
Regarding the size of the translation file, there are something about 400 lines of text to translate.

Anything new about the Danish translation? :D
Just finished this pearl of a game. I would be proud to be the Danish translator.

This is a must play. I am also considering writing a walkthrough for the game. But I think I will wait a bit with that until I am up to speed with other chores. :D

Very good game with a few shortcomings. First of all, I loved the cutscenes and the voice acting. Some of the puzzles were pretty good, others were so-so, like the various how-to-open-a-door puzzles. A bit too many of those. Pretty short, but the excellent production value makes up for that. And for once an AGS game with a protagonist that I didn't hate after two minutes (worth a lot in my book). I'm sorry people, but most of the main characters in freeware adventure games are not very likeable. Earl Mansin is.

I have to go with Scythes comments on this one. Brilliant game, although a bit short. Loved the main character, and the voiceacting. Loved the puzzles, which I found to be really good if the game had been longer (puzzles made you think but not stuck - a short game is finished way too fast in this way).

FROM DEVELOPERS SITE:
LATEST NEWS
10/01/2007
Some people complain that Earl Mansin is too short, especially for those who are veterans within adventure gaming. Therefore, I might as well announce that there'll be an extended version of Earl Mansin coming this winter. With 4+ new rooms and an additional NPC this should be more than enough to satisfy your beastly lust for puzzle solving.

And, hopefully, there'll be a Czech and Danish translation included in the next version.
