Freedom Fighters

Post by Chroelle »

Also known as: Freedom: Battle for Liberty Island, Freedom: Soldiers of Liberty

Well I simply wanted to make a topic about this game which is ultimately one fo my favourite games. It shipped back in 2003 and when it did, my gaming habits changed with it. As I wrote alot of other places, I am no typical FPS fan. I hardly ever play FPS's since I feel they dont challenge me in other things than reflexes. I NEED MORE. Freedom fighter did just that. With the best thing ever implemented in the game: The ability to control team members to move up ahead shooting on sight or positioning them strategically defensive enough to take down every commie attack you would face, this feature kicked *ss.

The game is about a plumber in New York (very American game, considering it is made in Denmark by Danes.) whos life gets twisted, turned upside. He whistles for a cab and when it got near I saw hanging dice from the mirror. I thought yeah now this cab is rare, but... Wait a second, got sidetracked there.
Ok, this plumber gets highly infiltrated in the freedom fight against the Communists that have taken over New York and moved in on other beachheads in the USA.

The plot in itself is similar to some movies like Fatherland where we assume that World War 2 ended in another way than it did. In this case the Russians took alot of control over GErmany and as such became a greater worldpower than USA.
YOu control this plumber Christopher Stone, towards reclaiming the terratories that the Russians have overrun. The idea behind the game where you have to switch between cityparts to complete missions, is simply brilliant, even though it does get annoying in one or two missions, because you have to go back and forth.

All in all this game was great, and still is. If you haven't tried it yet, then go look at your nearest EB Games or internet auction site, and buy it. It is at least worth 10$ without disappoiting you.
