Last Scenario

Post by Pater Alf »

This is a console style RPG made with RPGMaker XP. The story is interesting but not without clichés (even if most of them were avoided as far as I can see). Most interesting part of the game is the graphical design. You can see that the developer put much effort and love into into this (especially the character portraits and backgrounds are very nice).

As a special an additional card game is included that can be played with many of the NPCs during the game. Simply great!

"Features:

* 30-40 hours of gameplay
* Around 40 characters with their own portrait(s)
* Over 1000 different rooms
* A collectible board game (where tiles can be traded for items)
* A 'spellcard' system where magic and skills give stat boosts and penalties
* Plenty of sidequests" (description of SFC)

The game can be controlled with keyboard or gamepad.

I really like the graphics in the second screenie. You are right when you say that it seems the developer put alot of effort and love into it.

As for second screenie this is standard rpgmaker battle screen iirc with static characters drawn by author himself. Lot of stuff in game is made of standard tilesets actually, but he did amazing job anyway - status/inventory windows, characters and many other nice little touches make this game half-pro.

Like it already. 8)

Very bad scrolling in this game, excellent everything else. I love the tile minigame, actually once you get into it youll want to play it over and over again as a separate game. Some great ideas (spellcards), and well-thought strategic elements (no unexpected random 765-point hits, unique strategies to beat different enemies, "scan" spell). A bit cliche, but very entertaining plot, medieval feel. Very, very good game.

Dont know anything about sidequests that Pater mentioned in his post... Did I miss something? Because game is deadly linear (it's not a flaw though).

Well, I took the "Features"-part of my text from the description of the developer himself. I forgot to mark it as a quotation (will do it now).

But to be honest I thought the same thing about the sidequests yesterday. Game is indeed very linear. I still hope there will be some sidequests later on...

Linearity is not always bad thing... Especially if game is that good. What it lacks in freedom makes up in perfect character and story development.

Reminds me of Lands of Lore this one. Zero freedom, 100% fun.

I'm still amazed by the clever story twists. There are so many intrigues and so much betrayal. You never know what to expect next...

A first walkthrough for the game (including all items, hex cards etc.) has been published by a guy called ProfPuppet and can be found here:

I couldn't find a working download for this (other than one that would cost me $9.95).

EDIT: ...but then I discovered that I had already downloaded it from somewhere...

I'm hoping this is going to get better, because so far I'm not feeling the love. But of course, with two respected hunters appreciating it, I'll keep going. Please tell me that character you start with dies a horrible death, though - I can't stand him... (I already had him killed a couple of times, but that just gave me "game over" unfortunately)

Sorry, I think I have to disappoint you. But Hilbert will change during the game. He won't stay the same naive boy that wants to become a hero all the time. And there will be bloody deaths for other main characters...

Hard for me to understand that anyone might not love this game. But I think that's the reason why at least three Game Hunters have to look at the games before they get accepted for the site. Would be very boring if we all have the same taste.

Naive is one way to put it. IQ less than a wet brick is another... In principle I applaud the idea of a dumb main character, but he just gets on my nerves. At least I can kill him now that I have multiple characters. :lol: (not a good idea of course, since I know I have to level the bastard. *sigh*)

I gotta stick with this, but I have to say I have serious trouble with these games where I can't stand one or more of the characters' personalities.

Sorry to be going on about this. I think I'll take a break.

I have issues with the main character (I hate the freaking moron's guts, with a vengeance) and the story didn't appeal to me in the least. Also, I did not care too much for the boss fights, and I felt that the dungeon design was a bit uninteresting.

The original graphics are good and blend well with the ones that come with RPGMkXP. The magic system is at least a little different, if a bit punishing, or at least forcing some trial and error. While the extra hex game was merely a variant of FF8's card game, it was still an impressive addition.

Well I finally got to play a little more of it, and even though I did not complete the game I checked the length of it through a walktrhough and I was amazed to see how little I had covered already. This game is HUGE!
I liked what I played but I must admit I had my doubts in places. But the further I got the more I loved it. The main character didn't really get to me, negatively or positively, so I dont feel anything for him.
I think there might be some Dink Smallwood inspiration in this game, but tell me if I am wrong... (And maybe that is why Scythe is having issues with the leadcharacter :lol:)

I've gotten to about level 50-60 in this game, and it' is very long. There were several points where i thought this was the last part, and then you discover it's just the beginning of a new chapter.

You know you've played too much Last Scenario when you begin to wonder if there's a higher chance to score critical hit if you time the moment you press space.
You know you've played too much Last Scenario when you in real life think that if you're near death you'll be completely cured if you sleep in a tent.
