Bernard & Hank: Springtime Again

Post by Pater Alf »

It's 3:30 in the morning, I'm drunk, so there's nothing left to do but to open a freeware thread... ;)

I don't think there were many original ideas in the "Jump'n Run"-genre during the last few years. But making a law firm and its evil minions the opponents in the independent game "Bernard & Hank" definitly was one...

Now there is a sequel called "Bernard & Hank: Springtime Again":

"Hank Hoedown makes some pocket money by selling eggs, and plans to win the yearly egg contest with a huge egg. NationalLiberal, on the prowl for revenge, steals the big eggs and sends out his minions to paint and hide the rest of the eggs. Hank, along with his old pal Bernard Buffalo, has to go through 27 levels, meet around 20 different enemies and search for hidden bonuslevels to defeat NationalLiberal once again and get his egg back. Just like the first Bernard & Hank this is a straightforward platform game. The graphics are as simple as in the first game, but the gameplay, sound effects and music tracks are more advanced. Also included is the minigame Liberball (which was an unlockable in the first game) and a jukebox to listen to all music tracks." (taken from official homepage)

The game is fun again even if it seemed a bit buggish to me (the game crashed several times when I used the menu). I hope there will be a patch for these problems soon.
They didn't changed the concept of the original game, but music and sounds were improved. So all the people who liked the first game will like this one too...

The game is very easy (at least the first 12 levels that I played), and some levels you simply rush through.
The graphics are cute as always and the story is pretty much the same as last. Then again it might be hard coming up with more plots involving bankers and farmers. I think the game could use a leveleditor though. It seems like it could be drag and drop graphics. The prequel is on CWF:

Easter is getting near, so it's time to present a seasonal game. "Bernard & Hank: Springtime Again" is available at CWF now. You can download it from our game info page:

Main disadvantage is the easiness of the sequel. First part was much more playable in terms of difficulty. Here, only some areas are hard to pass, but they even dont have to be visited to complete the game.

I see also a danger on the horizon. Third part - let's hope it will be created - must introduce some new elements to gameplay, otherwise we'll have three almost identical games and that may be too much. Leveleditor seems like natural solution, but Id rather add new enemies or moves if I were Hayo.

Gee, I hope he wont read this.

If I remember correctly the developer always said that "Bernard & Hank: Springtime Again" was never supposed to be a real sequel of the game, but a small seasonal variation of the original game. Just a fun thing to pass some time around the easter holidays.

I'm pretty sure if there ever will be a "real" sequel it will contain some new elements...
