First about Adonthell which is actually more important than Waste's Edge:
Adonthell is the combined effort of like-minded people to create a free (as defined by the Free Software Foundation) role playing game for various operating systems.
The project's goals are the creation of an engine (currently going by the codename adonthell), a set of tools and an actual, playable game driven by that engine and built with those tools.
In the process, we well release a number of technology demos; small, self-contained games to test engine and tools, and to generate some interest into our project.

Waste's Edge is the first demo game with actual gameplay, even though it lacks many features of ordinary RPGs.
As a loyal servant of the elven Lady Silverhair, you arrive at the remote trading post of Waste's Edge, where she is engaged in negotiations with the dwarvish merchant Bjarn Fingolson. But not all is well at Waste's Edge, and soon you are confronted with circumstances that are about to destroy your mistress' high reputation. And none but you can avert this ...

I think this game deserves the benefit of the doubt. The plot is ok, and the idea about being locked in, is ok, since you wont wander entire landscapes to find out who it is you have to talk to. But a few items would have been ok. You go through this game talking only. You never have to "use" an item or pick up something. All you do is talk, and that gets a bit annoying, but it is also an ok way to solve a puzzle. The whole game has a very Hercule Poirot feel to it. Well at least some of the dwarves look like Hercule Poirot.

And some resemble Ms. Marple?
Game is only the engine's showcase - that's why it lacks battles and statistics... Adds detective adventure feel to it, takes rpg feel... Music is great anyway, second best in freeware games after 5 Magical Amulets imho.
