Advanced Strategic Command

Post by eMTe »

ASC is a free, turn based strategy game. It is played on a hexagonal grid for a map, and involves managing a modern army (combat, movement logistics, etc.) to victory over the opposing side. It is designed in the tradition of the
Battle Isle series from Bluebyte and is currently available for Windows and Linux.

Status: GNU license

Game is of course finished, but as every good strategy game is in constant development as new vehicles, terrains, buildings, maps or even whole campaigns and many other things are still added.

Hello, Battle Isle... That's not "in the tradition of...", graphically, it's a carbon copy.

But Battle Isle was a fun game. A freeware Battle Isle sounds like a good thing, though the graphics look rather... ripped.

There's a new version of "Advanced Strategic Command" (Version 2.0.1) and you can find it on our download page:

http://curlysworldoffreeware.com/game_i ... gameid=162

That's what the developers wrote about the new version:

"After several years of development, we have finally released ASC 2.0
Featuring a completely rewritten user interface and new graphics engine, it is a major step forward from the old 1.x series. We have also added lots of cool new features, too numerous to list them here (and to be honest, we lost track of them during three years of development)"

I played it for a while and I have to say that it is really a great improvement compared to the old version. The game is more polished now and it has a more professional look. Feels much more like a complete game now (playing the old version I always had the strange feeling that it was incomplete in a certain way).

Is the Linux version updated too? If it is, I assume the compilation could work easier... Last time I had too new versions of some of the libraries, and functionalities the code used were no longer provided. And I was unable to locate older version of these libraries...

I hope Linux package is updated, and that upgrading the graphics engine did also get rid of the dependencies to older libraries... If this works now, then I would love to see the linux version on site too :)

There is an update to version 2.0.1 for the source as well. As I'm no Linux user, I have no idea what this means and if this works fine now. But maybe you could try and tell us?

Here's a link to the new version:
