Colonel's Bequest Remake

Post by Dump401 »

Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of remaking Sierra's "Colonel's Bequest", the first game in the Laura Bow Series, and I just wanted to get the word out. We are hoping to work on the game's weaknesses and present it in a new and fresh way, while still preserving all of the elements fans love about the series. We are still in great need of help if anyone wants to lend a hand or knows of someone, we can use help in pretty much all areas. So anyone interested can email me at [email protected].

Below are a couple of screenshots, they aren't quite complete yet, but they give a good idea of what the game will look like. The sprite isn't finished yet, so excuse the awkward pose and shading.

Actually CWF-Freeware crew has been talking about the possibility to deepen co-operation with developers... Of course we are still at starting point, and our resources are limited, but in the future... :)

Anyways, what kind of helpers do you need most? We have people capable of doing translations, some quite graphically skilled members, and even some people with decent amount of programming experience.. Not to mention those of us who have actually been doing games themselves :D

I cannot of course promise anything for them, but I just wanted to tell that your question has been heard...

Anyways, I bet getting a bit more information about your project (state, needs, plans, ways of working, other team members etc.) would not harm... :)

Oh, and last but not least, Good Luck!

- Maz

*EDIT: Impressive screens BTW =}

The only help I can offer is the one you will certainly need last: Translation into german...

But I´m really interested in your project and would be happy about some more informations. Maybe there is a homepage you can link to?

And of course help on translations to Danish comes from me too, while if you need help with the storyline or anything I would also like to help out. I must admit though that I don't know the original.
What kind of help do you need?

I like the screenshots. Do you maybe have personal webpage - you seem to be skilled drawer.

Do you have anything more than these screenies or you're total AGS newbie and look for programmers?

Also I dont understand what you mean by "presenting game in new way". Do you plan to rewrite the story?

If you look for AGSers you wont find anyone particularly familiar with AGS here (afaik), but you might find help with some extra scripting, as Maz said.

Good luck and let us know when project will gain momentum. 8)

I am sorry. I guess I didn't know too much about these forums, and figured it was people looking for work, so to speak.

I am a AGS newbie, and really don't have much more than these screens. I have a handful of backgrounds close to completion, and a sprite artist helping out. But I am trying to gather a team of people to help out, and it's hard with everyone's schedule's to keep a team together.

But to answer your questions, I'm not trying to rewrite the game per-se, more like further develope what's already there. And by presenting the game in a new way, I meant more from the gameplay aspect. From the way you interrogate people to reviewing notes to inspecting items, it'll be a much easier system.

I don't have a website up right now, and I guess that's the one big thing I could use some help on at this point. Can someone point me in the right direction of an easy-to-use webserver, for someone that doesn't really know scripting all that well. Something with room for a few pages and easy to manage. Thanks and I hope this project will start gaining momentum soon.

Well if you find one, and you dont need tons of space, then I am willing to offer you space on our server for hosting what you have so far. Unless there is some unforseen issue, that Maz will remind me of later today... But hey... who keeps a promise anyway...
