Street Rod 3

Post by eMTe »

Street Rod 3 is an unofficial sequel to the series that is being developed for Windows and Linux (with hopes of supporting OSX eventually) with the aim of recreating a game similar to Street Rod 2 with more cars and parts, as well as transitioning the series from 2D to 3D graphics.

Project is in development for a long time, but, sadly, has been recently abandoned:

"It has become quite obvious in recent days that this project, has not, nor will ever reach the expectations of those involved with it (or anyone else for that matter); it seems a gamble to whether or not it will ever come close. As it stands now there is little to no interest on anyones part to put forth any effort to further this project. I cannot say when the final hour will be, but it will be soon...

It has been a pleasure working with this talented team of people, and a pleasure knowing/ interacting with everyone in the community."

I'm posting it here anyway, cause there were so many abandoned and later revived projects in the past that I doubt no one will try to gather the team (this or another) together again and finish it.

I couldnt find any good screenshots and screenshot link on main site is dead... :?

And now project is dead also.

I'll try to find the link to latest stable version of SR3, since I suppose download still exists somewhere.

Huh. Incredible.

From: Hellmark, 24th July 2008

"Yes, Streetrod3.com has risen from the grave. After much time, finagling, hassle, and personal expense, I've wrested the domain and data from others, and begun to restore things. Eventual plan is to totally redo the site, but, as things stand, better to have the old site up, rather than a squatter's page.

What does this mean about the project? Well, contrary to popular belief, it was never officially canceled (Unless you count the brother of the webmaster as someone who has that authority). That posting on the website was made without the prior knowledge or consent of the SR3 devteam. In fact, we were in the middle of prepping a new release at the time. Unfortunately, all it served to do, was piss off the devteam and make most of them quit. As things stand now, I'm the only devteam member left. What I would like to do is start recruiting some programmers (Sorry modelers, we need to get some coding done first), and begin work again. I have a few bits of code I want to add to the code base, but most of the changes that was made for the release being worked on at the time of shit hitting the fan has been lost in a drive crash. That included work on tools to make new tracks.

Still, all is not lost. We have the code from the last release, we have the site again, so, we can pickup and carry on. To show this renewed interest, you'll notice the new forum software."

Apart from this, project dead.

Project is still there, but somehow I have the feeling that the only update is the yearly announcement that they are not dead...
