The superstition: Astrology[\B]
Here to find the reasons
One aspect of astrology we haven't discussed is whether or not modern astronomy owes anything to astrology except for the names of certain planets or stars. And if you believe in memes (I think this is an abstract level of reality but the model fits very well) how did the meme of astrology evolve to begin with? What purpose did fortune telling and stargazing serve?

Good thread!
Myth: If you are freezing you'll catch a cold.
Truth: Freezing is uncomfortable, but the common cold is caused by a rhinovirus. You can only catch a cold by being exposed to the virus. The myth has probably arisen because during the winter, more people are indoors closer together and therefore the virus can more easily spread.
However, low temperatures tap the resources of body and the immune system can become less effective, thus increasing the susceptibility to viral infection.

Man's fault lies in his propensity towards willingly doing what feels good and his procrastinating reluctance to doing what is immediately uncomfortable but good.

Myth: A bully's words will never hurt you.

(excerpt from the article)
"Contrary to popular belief the study reveals that verbal-victimisation has a particular impact on the victim's feeling of self-worth, and that name-calling can significantly reduce self-esteem. In fact, verbal abuse can have more impact upon victims' self-worth than physical attacks, such as punching, or attacks on property, such as stealing or the destruction of belongings."
