Human spare parts

Post by Chroelle »

Well after going through one of the ther topics once more I must ask this question.

How do you feel about organdonation and are you actually an organdonor? Even blood donation will suffice for this argument.

Are you willing to let surgeons cut you open after you are dead to take spareparts from you that they can use for other people? I know the subject might seem like something for the marketplace, but I would really love to have it in here. This place has a way of hightening the level of debates.

I think there are more ways of looking at this subject, so it is rather open, wether you have a religious, ethic, psychological or scientific way of seeing it.

I myself find organdonations to be a great thing that helps out other people to go on in their lives. But the hypocritical part of this is that I am not an organdonor. My GF has trying to make me, but I am just a bit freaked out by it, and it totally does not fit my view on life and death to be freaked out by it.

Why am I so freaked out and what should I be thinking about? This is what I will use this thread for. This is not a strictly pro or con thread. Speak your mind (like you need permission :D )

Looking at how you describe the process:
Are you willing to let surgeons cut you open after you are dead to take spareparts from you that they can use for other people?
I would say you are freaked out by your imagination. Considering you won't know whether your organs are re-used after you are dead I don't understand why we bother asking people. I wouldn't even consider it a donation - dead people can't give anything of have anything stolen from them.

Ahh ... but you are looking at from a view as if there is no afterlife.
Many cultaures belive removing organs from a body after it has died, makes the person incomplete and left roaming this world cause heaven dont want them and neither does hell

But if it helps 7 other people live a fuller life have you not given everything you can hence making your case for heaven look better

Not say these are my points of views excately, just pointing out that MG77 isnt looking at the whole picture because of his own beilfs

I am strongly considering being an organ donor. I see no reason why, if I have good parts, why when I die someone else that needs one can't have it. What kind of 12th century superstition bulldink is it to believe that when you die something bad will happen to you because they cut you up for parts?

I also look at it like this: I open up dead computer for parts, why can't they do that to me when I die? Something appropriate to do with me when I'm gone and done.

The pros of organ donation is that peoples lives are extended. I don't see any cons unless you have some superstition that being buried intact is important or you can't imagine being dead. Imagining the removal of the parts for instance is irrational - you will not be alive to notice.

Often people didn't want their organs removed after they are dead because of religious beliefs. It's the same way that some want to be buried rather than cremated as they want their body whole. Over here, if a person dies of an accident, they will automatically use his organs for others unless he opts out of the scheme. However, if a person dies of natural causes, his organs will not be used unless he donates his organs.

I follow the natural system. However, one thing that I wonder is can people be 100% sure that you are dead before removing your organs. There have been minor cases where people thought to be dead came back to life.

My feelings on this subject is that once I am dead, any organs of mine that can be used to help others improve the quality of their life should then be used in that manner, I also feel that all healthy people should donate blood.
