Looks like this remake of Bitmap Brothers game is finished. Classic levels are almost fully finished (readme vaguely says something about them not being 100% done, but it's yet to check), there are two sample levels and editor which I havent tried yet. Gods looks like Gods with animation being maybe a little crappier, but I blame my memory for this. Several tweaks are included and original bugs were fixed where needed.

There are several minor and major gameplay differences. As JOTD admits in readme some features havent been implemented, because he wasnt able to trigger all bonuses yet (speed bonus for example). Also, game is easier - snakes in level 2 are easily destructible, while they were responsible for majority of deaths in world 3 back then. Some monsters appear in different places and flying creatures follow different patterns.
Game is buggy. Minor bugs: monsters stuck in walls, keys not working on chests and such. One major bug: dragon in level 2 doesnt drop the key after being killed. I finished level 2 twice and each time I couldnt grab the key = I had to quit.
This all makes me think again what's the purpose of such remakes. Great job was done indeed to make perfect copy, but even if it will become perfect it'll still be a copy. Programming exercise. It's called deluxe version, but technically it's just a buggy remake. Amiga original is widely available and fully playable on modern computers, so I dont see the point of playing this version - let's call it XP one.
Some games shouldnt be remade at all.

As far as I can see it's still an alpha version (0.4+). It's playable but I expect many bugfixes and improvements in the future.
About the sense of remakes: Well, I think it's just for playing the favourite games of childhood times again in a technically advanced version. And making todays children and youths aware that there were games with great gameplay out there, long before technically perfection in graphics and sounds came and killed most of the fun...

Yes, you can play Gods on modern machines without trouble.
I'm not talking of remakes in general, but about remakes that add nothing to original game. Moreover, the game we are talking about has cult status and author honestly admits that he wants to copy the original as close as possible. I can understand remaking old title that is buggy, has outdated graphics/sound or some features not well implemented; remake - if it's well-made - pushes idea forwards. Here we're talking of identical copy. I can understand author's pride from remake, but what casual gamer has from it?
I dont criticize Gods Deluxe as a game, I like it. I just dont like the idea behind it.

What we have here is a true gem of a remake. Gods was always good, but this makes me relive the days of yore, where I played this to death, and still never completed it.
A great game!

Re: Gods Deluxe
Actually there is a level editor now.
This is quite a good platformer. But sometimes you have no chance of avoiding the enemies.

Re: Gods Deluxe
I play it now and my general thought is that the deluxe version is easier than original. I don't have monsters in Gods memorized as precisely as in Chaos Engine, but I can bet that in original game monsters who shoot wall-penetrating projectiles appear much earlier than in this version. Also, speed was tweaked imo - game is much faster now.
