OpenClonk

Post by Drasir-Vel »

The sourcecode of Clonk has been released to the public. Based on that, OpenClonk is a new game that's being made. It manages to have some features that couldn't get into Clonk because of it needing to have backwards compatibility for all the different world and gamecontent.

One thing i noticed in OpenClonk is the ability to zoom the view in so you can see the Clonks up close. The clonks and different objects have been made 3D with animations and all, compared to the 2D sprites in Clonk.

Another noticeable difference is the freedom of controls in OpenClonk. In Clonk you sometimes had problems with throwing a flint at a specific place because the clonk would always throw a fixed distance and curve, and you couldn't get at it from the right angle to compensate for that. In OpenClonk you can control aiming with the mouse, so now you're able to be more precise when throwing things or when using the grappling hook that's also a new thing.

The game is still in development but it already plays surprisingly well. The increased freedom of controlling your clonk is refreshing.

Your graphics card looks unwell. Perhaps it is only old drivers.

I just saw they've made some updates and released a trailer. It's looking really quite impressive.
I like that they're starting to get the features of the original Clonk, but now with the more intuitive controls of the new game engine.
