Ostrich Runner

Post by eMTe »

Hilarious racing (?) game featuring ostriches. You have to compete with other ostriches, collecting eggs along the way and avoiding obstacles. Two-player mode, multiplayer and gorgeous graphics. I didnt have fun with it though, because it runs way too slow. Good luck.

Note: screenshots are in German, but version hosted by CWF is in English only. And it must have been shareware previously, because there's still demo to find on filefront.

This is hilarious! It is hard to keep track of both your position in the race, the amount of eggs you collected and the number of lives left. But you still get a good racing feeling and the obstacles come crashing at you in numerous new ways all the time. I am definently returning to this one to try and complete it.

The levels were colourful and varied. It has a decent story. The controls left a lot to be desired. The jumping especially felt a bit loose. You couldn't quite feel when you landed, and it felt like you were more like hovering over the ground than jumping, especially with the spring powerup. Otherwise the pace in the game is quick and it is possible to learn to avoid most obstacles.

Do yourself a favour and play this on easy difficulty level. It seems nearly impossible for me to succeed on any other one (and even on that I had problems at race 4 the latest). There are just too many obstacles and too many ways to loose energy and finaly die. Also the controlling isn't very smooth and because of that it's hard to avoid collisions sometimes. All in all I felt much more frustration than enjoyment while I played this game.

On the other hand there are also some nice things to say: The childbook-like intro is great and the music is nice also. There is two-player splitscreen mode and online multiplayer, so you can play it with your friends (who are hopefully not as dumb as the computer opponents) and graphics are funny and colourful.

Not my cup of tea, but there are certainly players out there who might enjoy a very hard racing game.

And that dear CWF-members is why the system here works. Different taste gives a strong validation. So if you see something that is a 6 then you will most likely like it too, and if you see a 4 and think it might be more like a 6 then most likely I can assure you that other members coming to download feels it should have been a 2. :)
The system works. :)
