Bah... I've ignored running for too long - again... This time I've got 10 kilograms and a navel tunnel in a year
Any ideas how to make myself running again?

My obsession network related programs and protocols has created these:
epb - Ethernet Packet generator (and more)
nsn - Network status monitoring tool for linux
thongs-sniffer - network sniffing and traffic analyzing tool + ethernet packet crafter for linux (derived from nibbles)
nibbles - UDP print listener + something else

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
You must replace a habit of not running with a habit of running. It's like quitting smoking. Many people think that to quit smoking you must quit smoking. They're wrong. You must replace smoking with not smoking. If you got used to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day now you get used to not smoke a single cigarette a day and you make it an everyday habit, to the point of slight madness. Same applies to running. One day you decide to start running; during first days your lungs suffer, you feel lazy, you have important things to do, meetings, tv show to watch, it's too cold or too warm or too late and you have tens of similar lame excuses, but you run, because this what you do everyday now.Maz wrote:Any ideas how to make myself running again?

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
I have to agree with that. I sometimes end up in a situation where people ask me if I ever smoked and I reply "No..Oh wait... yes, I did. I smoked for 15 years of my life". Its not that I dont want to admit it, but it is just not a part of my life anymore in any way, so I seem to forget that for a VERY long time it was a VERY big part of my life.
Unfortunately it works with running too. So when I haven't run in a while I tend to forget that I am a "runner". And that makes it harder to start up running again.
On another note - I was baffled to find that I had not visited since monday... I was sure I checked in almost every day, but the sunny weather, busyness at work and spending time with the family more or less took over. I am actually planning on playing a little Mass Effect today, and see if I can get that out of the way, so I can getback to "freewaring".
BTW: It was Kualles birthday yesterday and Guybrush wished him luck on FB, and I sent my greetings as well, and asked if they would stop by.. So I hope that they will.

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
I kind of agree with this habit thing... I quitted smoking year and half ago, and I indeed just made a habit of not smoking. Back then I also started running, and started from 500 metres and almost a death. However I had running as a almost daily habit for a few months, and ended up in a shape where half marathon would have been doable with average pace near 6 minutes/km.
However habit of not running stroke, and last time when I tried it was 16 kilometres and 7:30 minutes/km...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Same thing keeps happening to me.
BTW: If anyone is wondering why I am still in here and not playing ME, then I can tell you that what always happens happened again. Dad is getting his game booted up, and suddenly hears cryng from babymonitor... DAMMIT! Wifey went out shopping for groceries, and called 5 minutes ago saying that she ruined us and she will be home in a sec, and will then take the oldest out on a playdate with her cousin. So if Molly will just go to sleep in an hour or so, then I should have between 1 and 3 hours of total peace to play. *Crossing fingers*

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Well, Maria and I had an argument this morning, and like most arguments in relationships, it was over something dumb. She wanted the two of us to take Skoda to the park. Weather looked pretty good this morning, but I told her the way my back and knee were feeling, that the rain we were going to get this evening, would probably be here sooner.
Well, she hasn't been sleeping well lately, so she started getting a little upset. I told her that we needed to take a break and cool off, and discuss later.
She ended up leaving Skoda with me for the afternoon, and just came home.
It did indeed rain, and storm badly earlier, so I was right. She had gone to her mother's house, which close by. She told me even her mother was hurting, and said it would rain early.
Go figure that 10 minutes later, the sky darkened, and down it came!
All's well now, she is cooking me a nice steak for dinner later!
Skoda had a good time with just daddy - lately she's developed this thing for pulling the cat's tail. The cat has been amazingly patient with this! On the other hand, I can just imagine loki thinking, "Can we trade it for another cat?". So I've had to keep Loki and Skoda apart mostly, which bothers Skoda.
I think in a couple years Skoda and Loki will be playmates.

I think this is the perfect example of why men indeed are from Mars and so on. The little I've gathered from relationship arguments is that it's rarely, virtually never, about being right.Railwaymodeler wrote:It did indeed rain, and storm badly earlier, so I was right.

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
The whole Mars/Venus idea doesnt apply to love relationships only, but to relationships in general, including friendships, chief/worker relationships, parent/child relationships and any other situations where two or more beings collide, because this is exactly what happens. You take two or more autonomous beings and order them to cooperate. So they do, but at the same time try to save for themselves as much intimate space as possible. Love relationship is the most deep and most dramatic from emotional point of view when something goes wrong, that's why there are thousands of books on subject, including famous Mars/Venus books, but on the basic level it's just one of the relationships. The less egoistic all parties in the microsystem are the better for the relationship. Since there are no ideal people and nobody of us feels like cog in the machine there are also no ideal relationships, only better or worse relationships. End of story.

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Whatever it is, we are past it now. Very rare for Maria and I to have an argument. Generally, we're pretty good about communicating and expressing our points of view. She was tired and worn out, mostly because Skoda was keeping us up late at night. I'm used to that, she isn't.
Skoda has a toy cat that we keep in her crib. For a while she was happy with the toy cat and didn't need Loki near her at night. Now Skoda's figured out that the toy is just that: a toy, and wants Loki near her again.
Skoda sure has a fascination with that cat!

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
I know a song (with beautiful melody and instrumentation) with lyrics that suit the topic perfectly, but it would take hours to translate, so I give up for a while.
Anyway, when it comes to relationships I could write a book on subject, so if you ever want to know my opinion I can play the role of Well of Wisdom.
On another note. I just read on FB that Jay is again in hospital. Maybe we should send him some positive message(s)? Just in case he's not tired of them.

His Twitter has been silent for last three days. Four days ago he tweeted this. Seems like whatever is ailing him requires frequent trips to the hospital.Tormuse wrote:Again? Already? He just posted that he was home from the hospital four days ago! What's the date on the FB post?

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Apparently it's possible to watch the ice hockey championships live on YouTube, which is pretty cool unless you live in one of the following countries where it's blocked: Belarus, Denmark, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine and the USA. I think that only leaves Canada as the only country where it's not blocked and where people play the game.
I've understood that YouTube will stream the London Olympics, but I guess the stream will likewise blocked pretty much everywhere. Except, maybe, Canada.

Good for Jay that he's at home, even if only temporary. Maybe I read some older post when browsing Facebook wall. Anyway, he deserves pm support, so Im going to send him good wishes.

I have bad news, because there seem to be some holes in your hockey knowledge, Zyx. There's at least one more country where people play the game and where the stream isnt blocked.Zyx wrote:I think that only leaves Canada as the only country where it's not blocked and where people play the game.

And I'm probably the only Canadian who doesn't even care about hockey. Feel free to resent me.
