Well I suddenly ran into a small issue with Exit Fate the game. It can be found via curlysworldoffreeware.com, and is an amazing game.
(Un)fortunately for my game it hit a bug underway, when I turned around to talk to my wife for a good 15 minutes then I got a little present from the game. Before turning around I had just won a battle, and all of a sudden my character Joe was getting immense amounts of Experience levelling him up over 50 levels... Is it cheating to continue after this? I just got through a couple of hours of gameplay without saving, so I am hesitant to throw all that away... I did a lot of level grinding in that period as well, so it would be big time buhu to have to do it over...

Uploaded the video to Youtube to let you guys see it.

I let it count all the way to level 99, just to see what happened, and well it cannot go higher than that so the experience kept counting to 1000 and then started over, but there was no more levelling up. When I finally decided to cut the show and see if Joe was a new superman, he got cut all the way back to his former level 24 and went from 2035 hit points back to 123... Now I feel a littlle cheated...:)

Yes, that happens from time to time. I think always when a character hits the exact experience he or she needs for levelling up. It has no effect on the game and you can completely ignore it.

Btw: Did you find the cat yet?

Regarding the cat - if you look at the video...
I simply love him - not his attitude though, but his fighting skills. He packs a mean punch, and only Ayara can overdo the force in my party. Haven't gotten the guitarist yet though.
I am now off to fight a lady of the mist. :) And after that I am taking back Mayfall city I think.

Oh, now I see the cat. When I asked I was at my computer at work and the video wasn't shown there.

Oh ok.
Did you defeat Myst (the lady in the mist that you help Richard with)? I cannot seem to beat her... Any tricks you remember?

Sorry, I don't remember any strategies. I just remember that it was a tough fight and that I had to try several times before I was able to succeed. Maybe Drasir-Vel can help you. It wasn't that long ago that he played "Exit Fate".

DV - do you ahve any clues?

I opened up a walkthrough simply to see how far into the game I was and I was pretty baffled, when I found that what I thought was getting closer to an end turned out to actually still be halfway down page one OUT OF 3!!! I am beginning to think that I will be lucky to complete it before the baby comes... (ed: in april)

We told you this is a looong game...

And I think the sidequests are not even included in the walkthrough.

What quest are you in. The first quest in the mist where you defeat a mist monster, or the next quest where you fight against the level 34 mist queen.
If you can't seem to beat an enemy, it's often because it's a place you should wait with going to until you're stronger.

I got a walkthrough with all sidequests, but it was still amazingly long, and an entire trip out of your castle could be described like this example: Go to the village, hold left in the forest, pass through the maze by holding left and going north. After a short scene face enemy HP 235 Mag 32 PDF 45, when beaten go back to castle, and get next quest. (This might be a 1 hour quest - so 3 pages of that...that game is long!)

And DV: I am trying to defeat the Myst Queen, so after passing through the maze, and after defeating tons of myst creatures

Okay. Well, i guess in those situations i just trained until i had gained enough levels to succeed.

Some small specific advices:
- Have enough mend spells (maybe 20 or so) and never use more magic points at offensive spells than the mages can still be ready to cast the mend spell next round. Keeping your characters healthy is the top priority, even if it means it will take a long time, to beat the enemy.
- Remember, if you have magic items to have the mages have them equipped and ready for use when you want to spare magic points but still want to deal some damage.
- Since the mist monster is lightning natured it is more vulnerable to water natured attacks.

Ive come across two fine links. First one is a fan-site, obviously created by devotee(s) of Exit Fate and second one is a thorough review (if you spare bits of your precious time youll discover that the whole site hosting this review is worth checking).

http://exitfate.webs.com/

http://www.necessarygames.com/reviews/e ... amers-huge

Both links are worth reading, because they are completely different. While the fan-site is obviously positive about EF, provides maps, guides etc. without delving into deeper issues, the guy at Necessary Games, on the contrary, points out the weaknesses, BUT extends his review into talking about the whole genre, the tool used to create the game, and also talks generally about plagiarism and ripoffs.

I might have to get beyond my irrational(?) hate of Last Scenario and hope I'll like this better. I mean when I get the time. Who knows when that will be. :)

If it interests you I havent fallen in love with this game. It builds up very slowly and is overloaded with dialogues, besides it has unusually for rpg maker game very long loading times between and after battles and cutscenes (maybe my computer is slow). On the other hand it has intricate battle/magic system, so if you like digging into such complexities youll feel at home.

I'm kinda sold on the Suikoden, recruit a bunch of characters gameplay mechanic. I like those kinds of games. I just hated the writing in Last Scenario very very much, so I'm a bit careful. Of course, only way to find out is to eventually get around to trying it.

If you talk about overabundance of dialogues and plot twists lurking behind every corner Exit Fate beats Last Scenario to the ground and I know it already, after spending only a couple of hours with it.
