Laxius Power

Post by eMTe »

Ive played it for one year (with short breaks of course) and simply got in love in game's atmosphere. It's not the typical medium-length console-style rpg, the game is huge - counting all sidequests and hidden areas it takes hundreds of hours to complete. But the real charm lies in fantastic, truly epic story.

Two problems with Laxius Power, at least the version I tried a couple of years ago:

1) It's based on a modified code of RPG Maker 2000 (which is not open source). Modifying code is, to my knowledge, illegal.

2) It has some mild pornographic content. Don't know what the official stance is on that.

1) I'll ask about it on LP forums soon.

2) I finished this game and cant say there is "pornographic" content. Yes, there's abusive language from time to time, a bit of erotica (but you can see more details in soap commercials). This is in no case hentai game and I wouldnt rate this game 18+ even in my wildest dream. However this is the matter of taste of course.

It may well have been changed since I tried it. It is at least two years ago, possibly more. I hope they tweaked the random encounter rate since then. :) Two steps = battle, three steps = battle, two steps....

The graphics are definitely still RPG Maker 2K graphics, and I'm almost completely sure that the game won't open in RPG Maker 2K (it didn't the last time I tried). That in itself is a modification of the code.

Other than that, it wasn't the worst RPGMaker 2K game I've tried, but it wasn't the best either. It may have been the largest, and I trust it's only become better since then, so if the two first issues are somehow resolved, and the LP team would want it here, it's a worthwhile addition.

Actually for me this is another element of charm in this game, but again - this is the question of taste.

I still love first part the most, second was too...erm...scattered (stupid English  ). Too many separate plots, no epicness. Third part... - it seems Damianzeking had no fresh ideas.

We can argue if this is one of the best console-style rpgs ever made, but is definitely the longest and probably one of the longest rpg ever made. Call me stupid, but I can bet finishing it with all sidequests takes A LOT more time than finishing, for example, Betrayal at Krondor.

Are you telling me you've never played the Final Fantasy series? (If you look for every sidequest/easter egg/etc. they must be the longest) I clocked 150+ hours on VII, VIII, X, and now X-2... Well, ok, more like 300+ hours on VII. :D I have seen everything there is to see in VII, VIII, and IX. At least I'm pretty sure I have. Heck, I even talked 50 times to the same character just to see a brief cameo appearance. ;) Still missing some things in X, and definitely still missing some things in X-2...

I'm not calling you stupid though. BaK isn't THAT extensive. Or a console RPG for that matter. ;)

LP is the longest RPGMaker 2K game that I can think of having tried. I'll give it that. :)

In any case, other good RPGMaker 2K games that I can think of:
Legion Saga, and its sequels, were pure gold.

Wait, were there any other good ones? lol! I started making one at one time, but I got stuck on some of the code... :(

Final Fantasy - Endless Nova was pretty good, I think...

What about games with real pornographic content (like "Knights of Xentar" for example)? Will we allow them on the site?

I was actually trying to imply that question in my answer as well, but Chroelle didn't catch it. ;)

Well. I think that if we put info in the downloadspage regarding this, then there should be no problem. We can always add it in the disclaimer...

Wow! This game is really huge. I´m playing for five days now (at least 4-5 hours a day) and I haven´t even reached Sankta Leona yet. Which means I´m still at the beginning of the game (at least I think so)...

Game is quite fun, but sometimes it´s annoying that there´s a battle every two steps (but it get´s better when you cleared certain areas of a dungeon once and return later). Also there are several areas (inside dungeons) that are completely useless.

But except of this flaws it´s a great game and I´ll keep playing.

Wait til you reach Tangar Mountains ^_^

Took me x weeks to beat it (visiting all areas of course), but I couldnt find way to some hidden goods anyway (chest standing on small lake's island is only an example)

Oh, and if you pass the mountains you still have about 75% of play ahead ^_^

Not counting sidequests ^_^

That´s where I am at the moment. I think I already did most of the caves in Tangar mountains, but now I have to find Kevin to get to the other side. Searched for hours, but couldn´t find him yet...

Spoilers warning...

Kevin is at home...alone. :D

Kidding, Kevin is easy to find, you just have to take enough herrings or what was that what cured you from poisoning in 1st part and visit all places... ;)

If youll manage to get to this cursed chest on an island without walkthrough just tell me. Taht you did it, not how you did it. :D

I finally found Kevin. No wonder that it took me so long to do so. I searched in the wrong mountains the whole time... :(

And I´m quite sure his wife told me exactly where to find him. Sometimes reading the texts really should help :).

After spending some time with "The spirit engine" I went back to complete "Laxius Power".
At the moment I´m in Sankt Leona and have to train with the new sword "Metallus". That´s a bit boring, just walking around, waiting for enemies to kill them. Is there any way to speed up things at this stage of the game?

A very love it or hate it RPG. Certainly a huge undertaking, but broken English coupled with endless mazes and an impossibly screwed up encounter rate turns some people off (like me).

I take it that this thread is only for the first game, and not Laxius Power 2 and 3. Because then i'm thinking about posting them.

Well you might as well. LP1 has so far been in validation (slash permission-getting) since 2006.
