Alien Arena 2010

Post by eMTe »

We missed 2009, was it released at all?

Still better visuals and performance, however for the first time it uses in-game adds. But is still freeware.

Looks great! If we add it to the site, we should think about removing the old Alien Arena games. In fact they are big files and more or less just old versions of the game. I'm not sure anyone will still download them with the new version around.

We should also do this for the Trackmania games. I don't know where to draw the line, but for example in the case Trackmania, the Forever version is basically just an update (I don't even know if it's possible to play online with the old version anymore).

I think the best way would be to just disable to downloads to "old" game (if such exists) and add a note to go to the "new" game's page instead for downloads. This might be necessary for games where the "new version" has a new name like Alien Arena and Trackmania, but they're still basically the same game.

I thought the same when posting this thread. What we should do in cases like this is to provide only most recent version of the game and give links to older versions in game description. If old games are not available from official site than we should provide them via torrent. Remember Death Worm - guy found old version of his game only because it was available from CWF.

Alternative way is to disable downloads like Zyx says, but add info that if somebody for mysterious reason wants old version and cant find it anywhere we can send it to him. How - this is to discuss. :)

While writing the review for Trackmania, I found out that the Forever version doesn't include the StarForce copy protection mechanism. I think this is a good enough reason to disable the old download and link people to the new game instead.

Hm... The site seems down...
Does anybody know something?

EDIT: Nevermind - it was a glitch. It's up and running again.

I've been playing alien arena for a couple years now, and I still find myself coming back to it at least three times a week :D . I'm glad production is continuing. I still use my old 2009 version though, cause i don't feel like re-downloading all the mods. I'm also glad forsakenweb (Mod Database) is back up :P .

I am not a big fan of these FPS-type games, but it doesn't take a genre-fan to see that Alien Arena is a really good game, and it is free, which means that the quality is even more of a surprise to this extent.
