Afterlife: Rickard's Quest

Post by Drasir-Vel »

The Gates of Hell have been locked shut for centuries by the power of the Holy Cruciforms. These ancient artefacts are the only force separating the world of life from the Thirteen Realms of Hell...

But someone has removed ten of the Cruciforms and unleashed the denizens of Hell upon the world! The ten lost Cruciforms must be found and restored to their rightful place, but they have been hidden within the shadowy Realms of the Afterlife itself, and only one man is brave enough - or foolhardy enough! - to dare fly his balloon through the gates of the Underworld...

That man is a daring adventurer by the name of Rickard Bronson! Armed with an arsenal of dangerous hand-bombs and his Deadly Hunting Umbrella, can Rickard manage to overcome the forces of evil and find the hidden Cruciforms?

Afterlife: Rickard's Quest is an epic platformer, featuring more than a hundred levels, including secret areas and training missions; scores of hellish critters for you to blast with your incendiary bombs and Deadly Hunting Umbrella; bosses, unlockable hidden features and extra balloons with unique abilities; and a variety of challenging levels, from bloody open combat arenas to dastardly mazes and traps. How can I throw bombs at the right angle? I tried it for several minutes now, but I can't figure out how to do it... :(

Watch the video toturials for the first few levels. They should show how to do it. It can be a bit tricky to start with, but when you learn it the game can be quite good.

The bad thing is I already watched the video and still can't do it. It seems to be real hard. Or I'm too stupid. Haven't decided yet...

Think of it like the balloon is like a hand, and you're trying to throw the bomb instead of shoot it. You need to have the right velocity and direction when you release i the bomb.

I finally managed to do it. Played about 15 levels by now and I have to say that the "real" game is much better than the training levels (mainly because you don't need that precise aiming skills). Fun to play so far. Will see if it keeps its quality or if it gets repetitive after a while.

I've played several more levels by now and the game is still pretty good. There are lots of levels, unlockables and secret areas. And for some levels you even need certain strategies and can not just throw around your bombs wildly and hope that they hit something.

But there are still some things that I don't understand: What do I have to do to get a green mark on a level? And can I change it to green again once I got a yellow one? What does the time in the level menue mean (e.g. 1:51/1:00)?

I think yellow is better than green. It means you've perfected that level. And the time is what time you need to complete it in, to perfect it, or it's your best time.

Oh, you're right. Yellow is better than green. To be honest I would've never thought of that. In a civilisation where every child grows up with the traffic light system (green=good, yellow=average, red=bad) this is quite unusual and unique.

And the time means the best time you ever had on a single level (no matter which one). I suppose if you are able to beat 1:00, you will unlock something.

Now that i think about it. Green is just to indicate you've completed it. Yellow is to indicate that you've perfected the level by 'giving you the gold medal'.
