Yes, thank you!

Some of the changes are:

* Units now slide between tiles while moving.
* New terrain graphics.
* Menu music added.
* Sound effects for dragoons, artillery capturing a colony, building complete, church and blacksmith.
* New sound effects for artillery and buying/selling goods.
* Short music clips for Aztecs and fountain of Youth.
* Named regions and nicer placement of native settlements.
* New nations added: Portuguese, Swedish, Danish and Russian
* Games with up to eight European players are now supported.

But the biggest change is that you can now define gameplay mechanics using XML-files. You can easily change the rules you don't like or create a different game similar to FreeCol. I f you want to know more about that, please visit the official homepage:

If you just want to download the new version of Freecol, you can easily use our game info page:

I Have installed and playing freecol V0.93 and I like it. First of all, if the game freezes during next turn, click save & exit, and reload the game. You won't loose the game position at least, and it takes few seconds to reload. Another bug which takes place randomly is that when I hoover the mouse on buildings or other items, the contents / info in the corresponding bubble won't come.

My problem is that I have been playing this game on my old laptop which I do not need anymore (buying a new one) and so I transfered games (all files) from [My Documents/../freecol] to another PC (my desktop) with freecol installed. When I opened the saved games I got an 'error opening file' message. I am not sure if one version is 0.92 (from PC format magazine CD) and the other 0.93 (Web download). How can I transfer the saved games effectively from one PC to another - I have progressed quite far and not wiling to restart

Well I think you need to reinstall the game, and then replace the savegames in the new version with the old ones. I am not sure you can just move all files... I am guessing it still searches for the savegames through a specific path, and that path now changed.

We should update our download files. We still offer version 0.8.3.

Seems we missed some updates. Please remind me if I won't do it within the next few days...

Are you sure you have moved all the the user data.
Look under these folders and see if there is anything related to FreeCol:
C:\Documents and Settings\[User]\Application Data
C:\Documents and Settings\[User]\Local settings\Application Data
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
C:\Documents and Settings\[User]\Documents
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents

It could also be because some of the user data is stored in the program folder.

I could be because they're different versions. If nothing else works, if you have the v0.92 installer, to be sure, reinstall that on the new PC.

Thanks to all and esp. to Peter alf for the update. I will reinstall 0.93 from the link above, move the savefiles in the freecol savedir and see what happens. The save files should all be located in the Users/etc/etc/..freecol folder.
